Locals and Travelers Accepted Respiratory Therapist (RT)We are seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Respiratory Therapist (RT) to join our acute care healthcare team. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in patient assessment, treatment, and recovery across multiple levels of care, including the Progressive Care Unit (PCU).Position OverviewThe Respiratory Therapist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and monitoring patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. This includes administering respiratory therapies, managing oxygen delivery systems, assisting with ventilator care, and responding to emergent respiratory needs. The RT will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care.Schedule & Start DatesThis position offers flexible scheduling options designed to support work-life balance. Available shifts may include days, nights, or rotating schedules based on departmental needs. Flexible start dates are available, allowing candidates to begin employment at a time that aligns with their availability and professional goals.Patient Population & WorkloadRespiratory Therapists care for adult patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, post-operative complications, cardiac-related respiratory issues, and sepsis. RTs support patients across telemetry, step-down, and critical care environments. Workload and patient assignments are based on acuity and departmental standards and may vary by shift. Collaboration with nursing staff is essential, particularly in areas where patient ratios may be as high as 1:5 for nursing care, requiring strong interdisciplinary communication and coordination.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive respiratory assessments and reassessmentsAdminister oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapyManage and monitor non-invasive and invasive ventilation, including BiPAP and mechanical ventilatorsAssist with airway management, including suctioning and emergency intubation supportRespond to rapid responses and code situations involving respiratory compromiseMonitor arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust therapies per protocol and provider ordersAccurately document patient care, treatments, and assessments using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) systemEducate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and treatment plansMaintain compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirementsParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional developmentTechnology & DocumentationThis facility utilizes Epic EMR for documentation and care coordination. Respiratory Therapists are expected to chart all treatments, assessments, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner. Previous experience with Epic is preferred, but training is available.Work Environment & Dress CodeThe respiratory care department functions within a collaborative, team-oriented environment that prioritizes patient safety and clinical excellence.
