Ready to hit the road and put your locator skills to work? We’re hiring a HDD Telecommunications Locator to travel with our Drilling crews on projects across multiple states.
What You’ll Do
As an HDD Telecommunications Locator, you’ll work side-by-side with a Driller to safely guide directional boring projects and ensure underground utilities are protected. You’ll read prints, calibrate equipment, travel to different job sites, and keep projects running smoothly from start to finish.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Operate directional bore locating equipment.
- Work closely with the Driller to avoid damages to underground utilities.
- Read and interpret prints, survey job sites, and assist in planning bores.
- Perform daily inspections of bore/potholing equipment.
- Verify dig permits and comply with all safety requirements.
- Assist with filling water tanks and mixing drilling chemicals.
- Locate the bore head with accuracy, including under concrete.
- Hook up proper equipment (reamers, swivels, etc.) to complete bore shots.
- Provide accurate hand signals and direction to the Driller.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards.
- Operate DOT-regulated motor vehicles with proper licensing.
- Perform minor repairs and change out wearable parts.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in proper working condition.
- Strive for safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the crew.
What Will Help You Stand Out
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Class A CDL required.
- Minimum 2 years of drilling, locating, or equipment operator experience.
- Strong knowledge of reading prints, potholing, and underground utilities.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications.
- OSHA 10 Certification required.
- Yellow Belt Certification highly preferred.
- Ability to calibrate locators, read signals, and direct drill operators.
- Proven ability to identify above- and below-ground hazards.
- Problem-solving mindset — know when to call adjustments or pull back.
- Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced, travel-heavy environment.

What to Expect
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, mud, etc.).
- Some office work for reporting and administrative tasks.
- Standing, bending, lifting (up to 80 lbs), and navigating rough terrain.
- Extended overnight travel (2 consecutive weeks) depending on project needs.
- Must pass a background check, drug screen, and other job-related pre-hire requirements.
