Position: Preventive Maintenance Technician (Commercial Refrigeration)
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Preventative Maintenance Technician to join our commercial refrigeration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers/freezers, display cases, reach-ins, and ice machines, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing equipment downtime for our clients.
This is a field-based position requiring travel to customer locations Virginia, DC, and Maryland.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance services on various types of commercial refrigeration systems.
- Inspect, clean, and test refrigeration components including compressors, evaporators, condensers, fan motors, and controls.
- Identify potential mechanical issues before they result in system failure.
- Replace worn or defective parts such as belts, filters, gaskets, and thermostats.
- Calibrate thermostats and other system controls to maintain efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work performed and parts used.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to customers and the Maintenance Manager.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and EPA regulations.
- Keep service vehicle and equipment clean, stocked, and well-maintained.
- Provide outstanding customer service and represent the company professionally at all times.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of experience in commercial refrigeration or HVAC maintenance.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycle and system components.
- Valid EPA Section 608 certification (Universal).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
- Basic computer skills (for work order and service documentation).
Preferred:
- Vocational or technical training in HVACR.
- Familiarity with major commercial refrigeration brands (e.g., American Panel, Thermokool, True, Manitowoc, etc.).
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software (ie. ServiceTitan).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in hot or cold environments (e.g., inside walk-in coolers/freezers).
- Ability to climb ladders, crouch, bend, and work in tight spaces.
