What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Supervisor - Refugee Youth Summer Program position at Nations Ministry Center?
Nations Ministry Center is hiring a Youth Success Coach to supervise and facilitate our summer youth work readiness program.
Nations Ministry Center helps refugee and immigrant children become grade level readers and adjust to their new lives in Nashville through individualized literacy instruction, social emotional learning, and work readiness. The summer work program will provide 14-15 year old youth their first work experience through a partnership with POWER Youth.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating a safe environment in which refugee youth can learn and thrive
- Teaching work readiness skills to a group of 14-15 year old youth and deliver curriculum content related to soft-skills and financial literacy
- Assist in coordination of daily project activities: goal-setting, required tools, clean-up, etc.
- Supervising youth during their work projects - gardening, cooking, painting, and running physical education classes at a local elementary school
- Tracking youth progress and working toward meeting grant outcomes
- Driving a 14-passenger minibus (a CDL is not required) to bring students to and from our site
- Other duties as assigned
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:00a-2:00p (35 hours a week)
Summer program dates are June 2 - July 18. Training and onboarding will begin May 27.
There is also availability for part-time positions year round in our after-school program (Monday-Thursday from approximately 2:00p-6:00p).
Qualifications:
- Must have compassion for children who have lived through traumatic events and be willing to be trained in the most effective ways to respond.
- Applicant must be able to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.
- Preference will be given to candidates that have a refugee or immigrant background and/or are proficient in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Nepali, Burmese, Karen, Zomi, or Somali.
