Position Summary

The Player Evaluation Specialist will support the Amateur Acquisitions by providing live and video evaluations and supporting leadership in decision-making efforts using data-informed insights. The role requires experience in player analysis, proficiency with analytical tools, and an understanding of player valuation concepts. The Player Evaluation Specialist will work with Amateur Acquisition leadership as well as R&D and Systems to drive continuous improvements all aspects of the Amateur Draft cycle.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate a high volume of players using video analysis and select live-look targets, integrating all available data for comprehensive evaluation.
  • Utilize analytical tools to identify and prioritize prospects that require further analysis to ensure high confidence and completeness of information, evaluations, and valuations.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director in identifying and implementing improvements to processes throughout the Amateur Acquisition cycle.
  • Leverage analytical tools and models to recommend improvements to existing amateur projection models or identify future areas of research.
  • Partner with R&D and Systems teams to develop, refine, and optimize scouting tools.
  • Represent the Washington Nationals professionally in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel for scouting assignments.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of player valuation methodologies.
  • Experience with player analysis and evaluation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly confidential environment.
  • Deep alignment with and promotion of the organization’s values and vision.
  • Proficiency in R or Python is a plus.
  • Proficiency in SQL is a plus.

Compensation:

The projected annual salary range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
