The National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) is a powerful and personal experience designed to give a voice to every man and woman who answered the call for our country. This is neither a war memorial nor a military museum. The NVMM takes visitors on a narrative journey telling individual stories and shared experiences of Veterans throughout history. Founded on October 27, 2018, the mission and vision of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum is To honor all Veterans, elevate their stories, and amplify the power of service for everyone, everywhere.Position OverviewThe Manager of Safety Services ensures a secure and welcoming environment for all who visit NVMM. They oversee daily safety and security operations, lead emergency preparedness efforts, and guide staff training to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices. By managing security personnel, coordinating with external vendors and law enforcement partners, and maintaining readiness for incidents, this role strengthens NVMM’s ability to provide a safe, respectful space for Veterans, guests, and staff, supporting the museum’s public trust and ensuring every visitor’s experience is upheld with dignity and care.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesSafety and Security OperationsOversee day-to-day safety and security functions, including staffing, patrols, and monitoring systems.Ensure all safety equipment and security systems (cameras, alarms, access controls) are functional and tested regularly.Maintain 24/7 readiness to respond to emergencies and incidents.Emergency Preparedness & ComplianceDevelop, implement, and update emergency preparedness and response plans.Conduct regular safety drills and staff training in accordance with OSHA, fire code, and other regulatory requirements.Ensure compliance with safety standards and reporting requirements.Team Leadership & TrainingRecruit, train, schedule, and supervise security and safety staff.Provide clear guidelines and expectations for staff conduct, professionalism, and performance.Foster a culture of safety awareness and guest service among the safety services team.Collaboration and ReportingPartner with Facilities and Museum Operations to ensure seamless safety practices across museum activities and events.Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and outside contractors as needed.Prepare incident reports, maintain documentation, and provide updates to the Facilities Manager.QualificationsMilitary Veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses are encouraged to apply. Military experience (leadership, logistics, operations, communications, security, technical roles) is recognized as equivalent to relevant civilian experience. If your MOS/AFSC/Rating aligns with this role, we invite you to apply even if you do not meet every listed qualification.Required3–5 years of experience in safety/security operations, including staff supervisionKnowledge of emergency preparedness, OSHA standards, and local fire/life safety codesExperience with security systems (e.g., CCTV, access control, alarms)Strong judgment, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to remain calm and professional in emergency situationsAbility to collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including law enforcementSuccessful completion of a background checkPreferredBachelor’s degree in Security Management, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or related field Experience in a museum, cultural institution, public venue, or hospitality environmentExperience developing and delivering staff safety/emergency trainingCertified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or related certificationExperience managing vendors or contract security servicesWork Environment and Physical RequirementsMulti-space environment, including office, museum public spaces, and occasional outdoor settings Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as neededAbility to stand/walk for extended periods and lift/push/pull up to 50 lbsOccasional exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions during outdoor activitiesMust be able to remain alert and attentive during prolonged periods of activityMust be able to operate security and emergency equipment as neededCompensation & BenefitsFull-Time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package designed to support their well-being and that of their family.
