National Steel City is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Level Estimator to join our team in Birmingham, AL. As a senior estimator, you will play a critical role in accurately estimating the costs and resources required for the successful completion of the project, taking an RFQ initial inquiry to final submission. You will work closely with others in the department, subcontractors, clients, and company stakeholders to coordinate the entire cost bidding process accurately.
Responsibilities:
- Project Estimation:
- Conduct detailed analysis of the project plans, specifications, scope, schedule, and risk to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Collaborate with the operations team as necessary to develop the most competitive plan of means and methods to execute the project.
- Evaluate labor and equipment costs associated with complex, heavy, and unique structural steel erection, ductwork, and/or equipment installation bidding opportunities.
- Utilize industry-standard estimation techniques and software (Excel, Bluebeam, BIM, AI) to prepare comprehensive project quotes.
- Cost Analysis and Documentation:
- Analyze cost data, historical records, and industry benchmarks to validate and refine estimates.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, equipment, and any additional project-related expenses.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all estimation activities, including assumptions, methodologies, and supporting data.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate closely with the operations team, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate and timely exchange of information.
- Provide support during project negotiations, including presenting and justifying cost estimates to clients or stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with all project stakeholders to address inquiries, clarify requirements, and resolve any estimation-related issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in project estimation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving measures.
- Participate in lessons learned sessions to incorporate feedback and improve future estimation accuracy.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven 10 years of industry experience as an estimator in the industry, with specific expertise in greenfield and retrofit power generation, complex steel erection, boilermaker and millwright scopes, and other heavy industry.
- Strong knowledge of Air-Cooled Condensers (ACC), Heat Recovery Steam Generation (HRSG’s), field-assembled ductwork, equipment setting/rigging, construction methodologies of other power generation ancillary systems, and their associated costs.
- Proficiency in using estimation software and tools, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Compensation Package:
- $120k-$150k base salary range
