Duties Help As a Security Officer (Unit Chief), you will perform the following duties: Manage U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) physical security and emergency operations programs. Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and plans governing NSF security and emergency programs, assess program security policies, and identify and implement improvements. Serve as the NSF authority regarding emergency planning, training, preparedness, response, and recovery programs. Review and evaluate local and national intelligence reports to ensure NSF's security plan activities are consistent with the nature of threats and current threat levels. Serve as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and prepare major contractor requirements. Serve as NSF representative to establish, coordinate, and integrate physical security and emergency response programs and activities with external organizations. The selected candidate may be required to perform limited supervisory duties of a few staff members. Requirements Help Conditions of employment You must be a U.S. citizen. Additional Requirements: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade/equivalent. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service developing, coordinating, and assessing an organization's physical security programs and making recommendations, and leading emergency preparedness programs. Examples of specialized experience include: Applying risk assessment methods, threat assessment principles, and physical security practices in order to make recommendations, plan, evaluate and develop physical security program components. Leading emergency preparedness programs, such as evacuations, shelter-in-place, and incident prevention. Overseeing information security for an organization and training individuals on the proper handling of classified materials. Experience refers to paid/unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training/experience that translates directly to paid work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level. Additional information Relocation Expenses will not be paid.
