Part-Time Safety Consultant

Location: Kansas City Area

Travel: Local travel throughout the Kansas City area

Position Summary

National Safety Consulting is seeking a dependable and knowledgeable Part-Time Safety Consultant to assist with safety inspections, employee training, and other consulting services throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

This position will support a variety of construction and general industry clients. The ideal candidate will have strong hazard-recognition skills, working knowledge of OSHA regulations, and the ability to communicate practical safety recommendations to employees, supervisors, and company leadership.

Hours will vary based on client needs, project schedules, and training assignments. This position is well suited for an experienced safety professional seeking flexible or supplemental work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct scheduled safety inspections at construction and general industry locations.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, work practices, and potential regulatory compliance concerns.
  • Prepare clear and professional written inspection reports, including photographs and corrective recommendations.
  • Communicate inspection findings with superintendents, project managers, supervisors, and client representatives.
  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and OSHA-related training courses.
  • Assist clients with implementing written safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Review site-specific safety plans, job hazard analyses, and other safety documentation.
  • Provide practical recommendations that support regulatory compliance and effective field operations.
  • Document completed services accurately and submit reports within established timelines.
  • Represent National Safety Consulting professionally while working independently at client locations.
  • Assist with other safety consulting assignments as client needs arise.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous experience in construction safety, occupational safety, general industry safety, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction and general industry requirements.
  • Strong hazard-recognition, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned site visits or training sessions.
  • Comfortable communicating with employees, subcontractors, supervisors, and company leadership.
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and navigate active construction or industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • OSHA 510 or other advanced occupational safety training.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections and preparing written audit reports.
  • Experience delivering employee safety training.
  • Degree or certification in occupational safety, construction management, or a related field.
  • CHST, GSP, ASP, CSP, or similar safety credential.
Schedule and Availability

This is a part-time, as-needed position. Hours may vary from week to week depending on client demand. Assignments may include weekday site visits, early-morning training sessions, and occasional evening or weekend work.

Advance notice will be provided whenever possible, although some flexibility may be required for urgent client needs.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods at active jobsites.
  • Climb stairs and ladders when necessary.
  • Navigate uneven surfaces and changing jobsite conditions.
  • Wear standard construction personal protective equipment.
  • Occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
