Pay: $22-$25.00 Hourly Rate
Position Overview: Administer instructional sewing lessons to students. Throughout the duration of the training period, provide transparent feedback to the student, HR, and their department manager.
Essential Job Functions (Introductory & Advanced):
- Refer to and follow the Sewing Operator training checklist to ensure that all students understand and are capable of performing each application. The skills covered are:
- Machine safety, maintenance and function
- Material and garment handling and quality
- Standard sewing applications used in retail apparel manufacturing
- Produce garments utilizing organizational concepts for either a team based TSS flow or individual piece/progressive bundle production environment
- National Safety apparel communication and computer programs
- Instruct students using visual, auditory and kinesthetic lessons that help drive skill retention.
- Make sure sewing operator trainees adhere to company quality standards and procedures
- Maintain thorough records of training and performance reviews.
- Administer formal and informal performance reviews making sure all feedback is constructive and professional.
- Provide regular and detailed feedback regarding student performance to HR and their department manager.
- Work with Quality Manager and HR to determine school capacity for onboarding new students.
- Work with Quality Manager, HR and Production Management to determine when students are not meeting the requirements for advancement.
- Work with Quality Manager, HR and Production Management to determine when students are approaching graduation and provide feedback for suggested placement based off current openings.
Essential Job Functions (Advanced):
- Support the development and training of Introductory Sewing Instructors so they can fill in on Advanced training.
- Focus training on a smooth transition to team integration wherever possible, and when Production can provide focused training bundles.
- Provide support for establishing best practices in the school and, where necessary, in production to help drive efficiency and organization.
- Where, necessary, assist Production with determining construction steps for new items.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
- Administer lean and batch manufacturing support and training to existing teams in the production plant.
- May be reassigned to assist other departments.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Experience: Two years of industrial sewing, including full garment construction, is required. Efficiency based sewing is preferred.
- Language Skills: Intermediate English skills in accordance with the CEFR standards for languages. Must be able to communicate and understand familiar topics (sewing).
- Computer Skills: Fundamental computer skills; navigating applications, sending and receiving emails, and basic file creation and management.
