Job Overview:

The HR Director focusing on Payroll & UKG will oversee payroll strategy, system optimization, and compliance across NRS with a primary focus on the UKG Pro (formerly UltiPro) platform. This role will serve as a key leader in ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing and the integration of HRIS functionality to support business growth and operational efficiency. As a critical member of the HR leadership team, the Director will collaborate with cross-functional departments such as Finance, Operations, and IT, while ensuring adherence to regulatory and company standards across multi-state operations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations for multi-state, hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
  • Serve as the UKG system owner for HR and Payroll modules, including configuration, upgrades, workflow optimization, and integration with third-party systems.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (e.g., FLSA, IRS, DOL) and partner with Legal/Finance as needed for audits or legal updates.
  • Collaborate with Accounting and Operations to reconcile payroll, benefits, garnishments, and deductions with precision.
  • Develop, document, and enforce payroll and HRIS policies and procedures to support internal controls and reduce risk.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on payroll operations, tax implications, reporting requirements, and UKG capabilities.
  • Train, supervise, and support Payroll/HRIS team members to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for payroll and HRIS processes, leveraging automation and data analytics.
  • Manage payroll-related reporting, metrics, and dashboards for leadership, including labor cost trends, headcount, and audit requests.
  • Support system migrations, and special projects that involve compensation, labor integration, and system configuration within UKG.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 7 years of progressive HR/payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or director-level role overseeing multi-state payroll operations.
  • Deep expertise in UKG Pro (UltiPro), including payroll, HR, and reporting modules; implementation or reconfiguration experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of wage and hour laws, payroll tax compliance, ACA, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in the supply chain, logistics, transportation, or warehousing industry preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and team development skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with payroll interfaces, general ledger mapping, and report building.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships (e.g., tax filing services, timekeeping platforms, benefits integrations).
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
