SUMMARY

Show positive attitude to learning rotating machinery such as compressors, pumps, motors and motor drives. Understanding functioning of pressure, flow, level transmitters, temperature and pressure gauges, control valves etc. instruments. Understand and be able to trace and set up piping and fittings associated with chemical operations. Learn unit operations associated with the distillation and reclamation process. Learn to operate control board within reasonable time and apply unit operations principal in operating board. Expect to work as distillation operator after three years of training. Routinely tests will be given to qualify to stay in the program. This job consists of 12 hour rotating shifts - 4 & 3 night and day shifts. The plant runs 24/7 except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Sample feed, reflux, product, oil etc. tanks.

· Read collect data and log various process parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow and level.

· Maintain written log of operating performance and adjustment made to unit operations and note the time the adjustment was made.

· Maintain unit operations in safe and environmentally acceptable manner.

· Set up line and equipment to transfer product from railcars, product tank, feed tank, oil tank, ISO container etc. to appropriate storage location.

· Operate vacuum pumps, vapor and liquid pumps, compressor using standard operating procedures (SOP) in a safe manner with supervision.

· Learn operation and maintenance of boiler and chiller equipment using SOP within reasonable time frame.

· Should pass high pressure boiler examination within one year of joining the program.

· Take and pass test to stay in apprenticeship program.

· Operate forklift using SOP.

· Perform daily and weekly visual inspection of the distillation tanks and the auxiliary systems and issue written reports.

· Operate control board to maintain and improve unit operations.

· Perform general area housekeeping and exterior work.

· Other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE REGISTRATIONS

Must obtain Black Seal boilers license within one year of beginning as apprentice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and hazardous materials (compressed gas). The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
