Director of Manufacturing

National Ramp
Valley, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 5/27/2026 CLOSED ON 6/12/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Manufacturing position at National Ramp?

National Ramp is hiring a Director of Manufacturing to lead and mature our manufacturing operations through the next stage of growth. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial, hands-on environment and knows how to build manufacturing systems, processes, and teams from the ground up.

The ideal candidate brings strong metal manufacturing experience, preferably in fabrication, and has operated within an OEM manufacturing environment. This person must be both strategic and tactical: able to design the right operating model, implement work-center-level discipline, and roll up their sleeves to solve issues on the floor.

This role is best suited for a manufacturing leader who is analytical, process-driven, culturally strong, and comfortable creating structure in an immature and fast-evolving environment.

The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for improving the performance, consistency, and scalability of our manufacturing operation. They will help move the organization from reactive execution to structured, measurable, repeatable manufacturing excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build, improve, and standardize manufacturing processes across work centers
  • Create systems to manage work center performance, throughput, utilization, and efficiency
  • Streamline operations to improve gross profit
  • Lead safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance initiatives
  • Identify and reduce rework, non-conformance, and customer-impacting defects
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, procurement, distribution, engineering, and leadership
  • Develop teams, supervisors, and frontline manufacturing talent
  • Create accountability through metrics, dashboards, daily management, and operating rhythms
  • Balance strategic planning with tactical floor-level execution

Performance will likely be measured through:

  • Safety
  • Efficiency
  • Labor utilization
  • Work center performance
  • Hours of rework
  • Non-conformance rates
  • Customer complaints or customer-impacting defects
  • OEE / overall equipment effectiveness
  • Gross profit improvement
  • Throughput and schedule adherence
  • 5-7 years' experience in metal manufacturing leadership
  • Fabrication experience strongly preferred
  • Manufacturing experience within an OEM environment
  • Strong cultural leadership and ability to build trust on the floor
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to understand, build, and improve processes
  • Experience creating processes and systems from scratch
  • Comfort working in an immature, evolving, or underbuilt manufacturing environment
  • Ability to be both strategic and hands-on
  • Proven record improving operational efficiency, quality, and cost performance

Additional valuable experience includes:

    • Welding experience
    • Robotic welding or robotic automation experience
    • Aluminum manufacturing or fabrication experience
    • Procurement exposure
    • Prior broader operations experience
    • Distribution or logistics exposure
