Job Summary
A Medical Records Clerk performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the unit including updating and organizing information on the unit; coordinating work within the unit and with other units and departments; reporting relevant information to the supervisor; and responding to inquiries and requests from patients, visitors and caregivers.
Reports to: Director of South Central GI Clinic
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Requirements
Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree Preferred
Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Essential Functions:
Performs all clerical/computer functions including filing and scanning medical records and loose documents.
Purge and retire medical records appropriately.
Stocks unit with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels.
Answers the telephone in a professional manner and assists customers as needed.
Maintains confidentiality and protects privacy of healthcare information, security of password, and access codes.
