In Office Mortgage Underwriter

Mortgage Underwriter (Conventional or DE) – On-Site or Hybrid

Our client is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter (Conventional or DE) to join their expanding underwriting team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in residential underwriting, proven Agency experience (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA), and the ability to analyze complex borrower profiles. DE certification is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite Agency and FHA mortgage applications for compliance with investor guidelines.

• Analyze borrower income, credit, assets, and collateral for accuracy and risk.

• Ensure all files meet internal and investor requirements for quality and compliance.

• Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions to internal teams clearly and promptly.

• Collaborate with processors, account managers, and sales teams to resolve conditions and expedite approvals.

• Maintain current knowledge of Agency and FHA regulations and investor updates.

• Manage multiple files efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience

• 3 years of Agency underwriting experience (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or FHA)

• FHA experience required; DE certification strongly preferred

• Proficiency in Encompass LOS, CoreLogic FraudGuard, and AUS (DU, LPA, Total Scorecard)

• Excellent analytical and communication skills

• Currently active in the industry (no unemployment longer than 12 months)

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $70,000–$100,000 (DOE)

• Bonus: Monthly, after 2 years (based on funding volume)

• Benefits: Health Insurance, SIMPLE IRA (3% match), PTO, 5 sick days

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. PST
