The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois improves the health and well-being of people at risk for or affected by kidney disease through prevention, education, and empowerment.Position DescriptionThe Accounting Manager Contractor will provide comprehensive financial leadership and hands-on management of all accounting functions during the Chief Financial Officer's leave of absence. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial data, maintaining strict compliance with non-profit accounting principles (FASB ASC 958), and managing a $3.7M budget.This is an interim position designed to ensure the smooth, uninterrupted functioning of our financial operations during the coverage period (approximately 4 to 5-months, January 2026 through April or May 2026). The ideal candidate will be able to step in quickly, leverage prior non-profit experience, and maintain established accounting fiscal stability, continuity, and procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Conduct financial analysis, budget vs. actual variance analysis, and prepare management reportsEnsure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems. Oversee all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, and month-end close processes. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial dataEnsure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirementsEnsure properly recognition, classification and coding of revenue receivedWork closely with program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets (if applicable during the contract period)Ensure all balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, and investment accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis, and properly supported.Maintain and enforce strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure financial integrity.Supervise the Finance and Accounting CoordinatorProcess bi-weekly staff payroll Sills and Competencies:Knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to execute daily accounting tasks while providing financial insight and leadershipExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsExceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex financial information to non-financial audienceProven ability to manage deadlines, and prioritize effectivelyUnquestionable ethics and integrity in managing sensitive financial informationMust be able to lift at least 35 pounds.
