Priority One Services is hiring for a Primate Behavior Technician for the National Institutes within NIMH, NEI, and NHLBI.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role located in Bethesda, MD, for a Primate Behavior Technician. Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of primate behavior and welfare, will enhance captive environments through behavior observations, enrichment design and implementation, and positive reinforcement training.
Primary Responsibilities
- Performs routine behavior assessments on new world and old world primates for monitoring psychological well-being
- Determines potential NHP social partners, completes social introductions, and monitors progress of social pairing.
- Develops and implements shaping plans to assist in the preparation of animals enrolled in research studies (i.e. target training, positive reinforcement training, habituation)
- Performs temperament evaluation of animals
- Trains staff on positive reinforcement techniques
Minimum Qualifications
- Understanding of animal welfare and behavior
- Previous primate experience and experience working in a laboratory animal facility
- AALAS ALAT certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Biology, or related field
