This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.

Job Summary

The Onboard Technology Mechanical Intern will support projects focused on locomotive onboard systems and reliability. This role offers hands-on experience in data analytics, engineering design, and process improvement. The intern will work closely with mechanical engineering, reliability teams, and senior leadership, contributing to CN's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The position includes leading a project with monthly presentations to stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyze locomotive onboard technology data to identify trends and root causes.
  • Assist in creating locomotive fault alerts and rules using operational data.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations in Tableau or Power BI. *
  • Collaborate with fleet leaders to create workscopes and process documentation.
  • Support design updates for Locomotive technology or onboard schematics.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly project updates to leadership.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).*
  • Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.*
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design platforms.*
  • Understanding of coding and application development concepts.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
  • Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn.

Education

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
