This position reports to the Office of the Treasurer (T), Digital Experience Division (TDE) through the Department of AV-Operations (TDE-AV). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert in all Gallery wide AV systems and workflows.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1071-12.
For this position, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, serving as a technical expert in all Gallery wide AV systems and workflows for a major organization or large institution.
Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria:
Must have experience and certification in leading AV technologies such as:
- CTI certifications
- Crestron, AMX control systems
- Digital audio technologies (Audianet, BiAmp, QSC, Dante, CobraNet, BSS)
- Digital Projection certifications (Christie, Barco)
- AV over IP technologies such as NDI

- Comprehensive knowledge of and wide-ranging technical expertise in the audiovisual field, including related skills in acoustics, television, communications, theatre design, motion picture industry, radio broadcast production, recording engineering, and the electrical and electronics fields.

- Comprehensive knowledge of the mission of the National Gallery of Art and how AV in digital experiences can enhance and foster an appreciation and understanding of art and programs at the museum and elsewhere.

Responsibilities:
The incumbent will:
Serve as the lead specialist in the design, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of all audio-visual systems across the National Gallery campus.
- Perform needs analyses, technical research and development, and finished AV systems designs.
- Serve as project manager and COR for various large and small audio-visual infrastructure amendments and improvements.
- Program AV components for deployment and integration with greater architectural and theatrical systems including lighting, safety, notification, and automation systems.
- Coordinate network requirements with Digital Solutions and assists in network configuration of AV equipment.
- Perform maintenance and operation of film and video playback and recording systems in auditoria. This includes specialized 35mm and 16mm film projectors and cinema audio systems.
- Perform maintenance and operation of auditoria digital cinema systems (DCP), DCP ingestion and playback devices.
- Act as technical leader and consultant in digital signage solutions.
Serve as the design and installation engineer in exhibition related audio video components including accessioned and borrowed time-based media art (TBMA).
- Participate in exhibition design with a variety of partnering departments including Exhibition Design, Curatorial, Visitor Experience, Interpretation and Architects. Act as the AV expert in exhibition design, advises on equipment and layout based on advanced understanding of technical components.
- Perform parameters research, prepares exhibition AV budgets and leads acquisition of equipment and media components.
- Produce room and layout concept drawings using design tools such as Google SketchUp and AutoCAD.
- Oversee build schedules, coordinate labor requirements, prepare and install AV and IT associated hardware and software for exhibitions,
- Design and install advanced AV environments including multi sync digital projection and display technologies, visitor interactives, touch kiosks, motion sensor technology, surround sound systems, NDI video, fiber transmitters as well as legacy technologies such as 16mm projections, 35mm slide carousels and CRT displays.
- Receive, assess, and install time-based media art loans.
- Design and install time-based media art acquisitions and coordinates parameters with artists, conservators, curators, and exhibition designers.
Operates equipment during events, public or private. Perform operator/production duties and must be able to set up and operate all types of recording and audiovisual equipment including video cameras and video recorders, film and slide projectors, audio recorders, tape and disc players, and sound systems
