The City Manager for the City of Sonoma provides strategic leadership and direct oversight of key functional areas, including Administration, Human Resources, Economic Development, Finance and Budget, and the Successor Agency. The role also serves as a central point of coordination with contracted service providers and maintains strong partnerships with the business community, the Sonoma Chamber of Commerce, local nonprofits, school districts, Sonoma County, and neighboring jurisdictions. The ideal candidate for the City Manager of Sonoma will be an experienced executive or department head from a municipal or comparable private-sector organization, with a demonstrated ability to lead a complex organization that serves all facets of a community. This leader will foster a positive, service-oriented workplace culture that prioritizes responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous improvement in organizational effectiveness.
