Crop Insurance Training and Instructional Design Specialist

National Crop Insurance Services, Inc. (NCIS) is a non-profit service organization whose membership includes all approved insurance providers (AIP) who participate in the federal crop insurance program administered by USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA). NCIS is seeking to fill a full-time position in the role of Crop Insurance Training and Instructional Design Specialist.


SUMMARY: The Crop Insurance Training and Instructional Design Specialist will plan and produce training materials for external use in the Crop Insurance Industry and for internal use by NCIS staff. This role will also research, write, produce, publish, and deliver training related materials in various media formats.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all phases of instructional systems including analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation. This includes presenting training materials in various settings such as committees, Loss Adjustment schools, webinars, and in-person conferences.
  • Translate new programs and program updates into training materials.
  • Guarantee quality in design of instruction through principles and practices of systematic design.
  • Seek and use feedback from peers and staff during course development.
  • Initiate and oversee course evaluations.
  • Maintain training library.
  • Review existing training materials and assess and identify needs moving forward.
  • Design courses and training materials within a given format.
  • Design tests and proficiency exercises for trainees.
  • Promote training opportunities through internal and external communication channels.
  • Ability to work independently and work as a team contributor.
  • Provide support to NCIS committees and members as necessary.
  • Manage the marketing of training products.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent; plus three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


This role requires the ability to work with computer software including: Windows Suite: Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access; Adobe Creative Commons; Zoom; Articulate 360 or similar content creation app.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with Crop-Hail and/or Multiple Peril crop insurance.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and perform with minimal supervision.
  • Effectively lead information gathering sessions; ability to respond to questions from various groups in both written and verbal form.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: NCIS is located in Overland Park, KS and is observing a hybrid model with a minimum of ten scheduled days in the office per month. This consists of a rotating schedule of Wednesday-Thursday in office days followed by Tuesday-Thursday in office days.


PAY: Compensation is commensurate with qualifications. NCIS offers a generous benefit package including paid time off, health, dental, vision and life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an employer matching component.
