Details Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Healing Programs Coordinator is responsible for supporting and implementing programming centered on healing for Boarding School Survivors and Staff. This position reports directly to the Director of Indigenous Mindfulness and works closely with them to fulfill various grant-related activities and assist with the completion and management of grant deliverables. This position will also work closely with other departments (Digital Archives, Research and Education, Policy, Development and Oral History Project) to collaborate and provide support with healing-related program needs. Skills & Qualifications What you Bring Must-Haves ● Knowledge of the American Indian and Alaskan Native boarding school history, legacy, and impacts. ● Familiarity with and work experience in Native American communities. ● Must demonstrate respect for all cultural and spiritual protocols within various tribal communities. ● Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills. ● Excellent self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence with a deep respect for individuals, groups, and their stories. 2525 E. Franklin Ave. Ste. 150, Minneapolis, MN 55406 | 612.354.7700 | info@nabshc.org | boardingschoolhealing.org ● Proficient computer skills, mastery of MS Office, and Adobe Pro. ● Commitment to social change and justice for boarding school survivors and descendants. ● Strong emotional regulation - the stories collected range in levels of privacy, sensitivity, trauma, graphic and potentially trauma inducing content. ● Occasional nights and weekend work may be needed. ● Experience working remotely with proven time management skills and the ability to work independently as well as with a diverse team. Nice-to-Haves ● A bachelor’s degree in a related field. ● Background in one or more of the following areas: Counseling, Social Work, Addiction, Peer Recovery support, Community based healing programming. ● Technical writing experience. ● Experience working with multiple ages and generations, especially engaging elders in community and conversation. ● Familiarity with trauma-informed care, healing practices. ● Experience with project management or research software, such as Salesforce, Basecamp, Otter.ai, and other. WORK ENVIRONMENT ● This position is 40 hours a week with heavy computer use and in-person support where needed. ● As needed, travel for the Oral History Project one week per month to different sites across the country. Duties & Responsibilities What You Will Do Healing: Community and Internal Staff Work (50%) ● Under the supervision of the Director of Indigenous Mindfulness to coordinator will support program goals and grant requirements including: ○ Coordinating activities, events, and outreach related to programming. ○ Assist with the preparation and collection of materials related to reporting on grant progress. ○ Assist with fundraising for healing programming. ○ Assist in overseeing and implementing grant deliverables. Build community relationships to find, develop, and maintain partnerships with leading Native cultural, political, and healing organizations. ● Work closely with community partners and internal NABS team members to plan and execute various community healing events (ex: regional healing circles, Orange Shirt Day Events, DIW Yearly Elders Day). ● Serve as an enthusiastic advocate for the Coalition in the community by promoting its resources, programs, and services via sustained outreach activities. ● Engage and support members who are Boarding School Survivors and Descendants. ● Provide outreach and logistical support for NABS sponsored community events and gatherings. ● Incorporate trauma-informed care philosophy, practices and strategies in all activities. ● Coordinate talking circles both in-person and virtually for boarding school survivors and/or descendants. ● Assemble and coordinate materials to be sent out by mail and electronic correspondence to boarding school survivors. Oral History Project Work (50%) ● Pack and send care packages to all interviewed Boarding School Survivors who participate in the Oral History Project following their interviews. ● Maintain and oversee the inventory related to the projects activities and keep the project team up to date on supply needs and the need for ordering materials. ● As needed, travel to a new state monthly, staying on site for one week to assist with documenting the oral histories of survivors of Indian boarding schools. When on site: ○ Work closely with project team members to reach out to and identify survivors and invite them to share their experiences. ○ Create respectful and safe interview environments. ○ Explain the goals of the project with project participants. ● Collaborate with team members to process content, compile, and preserve information. ● Ensure all protocols are followed. ● Participate in project evaluation to improve processes and outcomes. ● Assist with outreach to regional partners to build a therapeutic/healing support network to share with survivors. Salary & Benefits $65,000 annually
