Description

The Spring 2026 Policy and Government Affairs Intern will help strengthen NCRC’s relationship with the government. In this critical role, the intern will assist the Government Affairs team in planning and executing a successful Hill Day. A key responsibility will be attending NCRC’s Hill Day on April 16, 2026, and providing support to the Government Affairs Specialist as needed.

The intern will learn about how NCRC aids underserved communities by conducting political research, creating briefings, and preparing one-pagers. Additionally, they will receive training in political communications from the Policy and Government Affairs team, focusing on correspondence with government officials and the development of external political communications for various audiences.

During this internship, the intern will have experiences that will inform their academic studies as well as provide real-world examples of the advocacy, political directives, and mission-based work of a national nonprofit through assignments. NCRC will provide the appropriate level of guidance and feedback to support the intern's educational development and academic program.

Requirements

  • The intern will assist the Policy and Government Affairs team as they work with staffers from congressional offices and regulatory agencies.
  • The intern will attend Congressional committee hearings (virtually or in person) and communicate relevant bill updates regarding financial policy issues for the Government Affairs Specialist.
  • The intern will observe and document NCRC’s monthly Leg/Reg calls and learn how to communicate policy updates to a diverse audience of stakeholders.
  • The intern will research congressional offices and prepare documents to aid in carrying out NCRC’s Hill Day.
  • The intern will assist in contacting Congressional staffers and coordinating meetings for NCRC’s Hill Day.
  • The intern will observe and assist with preparation for Hill Day through developing one-pager documents, working with state delegations, and ensuring membership is adequately prepared for Hill Day.
  • The intern will collect press clippings regarding NCRC issues in Congress and communicate them to the Government Affairs Specialist.
  • The intern should prepare to contribute to a teamwork environment with a willingness to absorb politically centric topics that they will be educated on.
  • The intern will observe common political practices, tools, and resources for issue topics.

  • The intern will learn how to communicate complex topics effectively to political and non-political entities.
  • The intern will develop the skill of taking initiative through speaking with staff, proactively asking questions, and presenting ideas.
  • The intern will gain a greater understanding of quality management through observing a national non-profit's ability to execute accurate, high-quality, and impactful work.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student in Policy, Political Science, Government Affairs, or a related field
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and present key insights clearly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort interacting with external partners
  • Ability to manage tasks, prioritize deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively
  • Commitment to racial and economic equity and enthusiasm for NCRC’s mission

Location: This position is based in Washington, DC, near McPherson Square Metro, as part of a hybrid environment with Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays in the office.

This paid internship offers an hourly wage of $17.95. Interns are expected to work no more than 30 hours per week
