Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Museum/Visitor Services, the Lead Visitor Services Representative (LVSR) is responsible for assisting with gallery operations, monitoring and maintenance. The position is a full-time hourly benefit eligible position with a work schedule of Thursday to Monday (weekends required) during the Museum's hours of operation. This will include some evening work when the Museum is open for events but would be scheduled in advance. The candidate will work in conjunction with the current LVSR to support the full team of Visitor Services Representatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate leadership and motivate staff to exceed expectations of visitors, ensuring a warm, safe, welcoming visitor experience is at the forefront of all interactions.
- Address and solve visitor issues and incidents.
- Staff the Information Desk – maintain desk cleanliness, ensure information brochures are stocked on a daily basis, answer visitor questions.
- Assist with museum opening procedures: de-alarm galleries; perform morning gallery walk-through to assess gallery conditions; turn on gallery lights, monitors, computers, interactives; check climate in galleries and request adjustments from engineer’s office if necessary.
- Assist with daily operating procedures: opening and closing the Visitor Services (VS) office, determining daily post orders, leading morning VS meetings.
- Consistently lead by example by adhering to the Museum’s and the department’s policies and procedures.
- Monitor and maintain gallery conditions, building/grounds, and report and/or fix issues as needed.
- Conduct minor repairs and touch-up in galleries as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A background or demonstrated interest in a museum setting, the building arts, museum studies and/or experience with retail sales or customer service.
- Availability: must be available to consistently work weekends including holiday weekends.
- Experience working as a member of a team as well as demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated punctuality and dependability.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve and remain calm during challenging situations.
- Enthusiasm for and ability to uphold the mission of the Museum.

- This is an active work position that requires the ability to move about the Museum frequently and to position oneself to interact and communicate appropriately with visitors.
- Position requires being on one’s feet up to 8 hours per day.
- Employee may be responsible for moving objects of up to 20 lbs. when needed.
