The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has an opportunity for a Business Development Manager in our Member Experience department. This position will be responsible for the sale of association sponsorship, exhibits, affiliate space, advertising opportunities, and associate member development, through relationship building, renewal negotiations, and active sales with prospective and current members, exhibitors, sponsors, and advertisers.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Develops new vendor relationships and partnerships using qualified leads and through sales strategies which may include research, cold calls, and email communication.
  • Responsible for matching leads to appropriate opportunities within the association.
  • Manages associate member recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • Manages the sales process for affiliate meeting/social space and vendor branding for Annual Convention.
  • Achieves revenue and retention goals for Sponsorship, Exhibiting, Affiliate Space, Advertising, and Associate Membership programs.
  • Actively listens to customers to improve retention of revenue annually.
  • Plays an active role in maintaining sales data, reporting sales/revenue, and tracking renewals in Salesforce.
  • Works with colleagues to ensure that products are developed to match target audience and increase revenue potential.
  • Assists in the budgeting process for sponsorship and advertising revenue.
  • Builds and maintains positive work relationships with management, staff members, and external contacts.
  • Arrives at work on time and maintains a positive attendance record.
  • Performs any other duties and projects assigned.


Qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated skill and comfort level in prospecting sponsors and associate members, through a connection or via cold calls.
  • Strong negotiating, active listening skills, and ability to close a sale and maintain a positive, ongoing relationship with customers.
  • Strong ability to develop partnership relationships while maintaining appropriate business boundaries.
  • Appropriate level of self-confidence and maturity to be able to handle problems and rejection.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate in a concise yet persuasive manner in both verbal and written communication forms.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changes in priority.
  • Ability to collaborate and be team oriented, meet deadlines, take direction and receive feedback, accept accountability, and think “out of the box”.
  • Proficient use of PC, including database management and Microsoft Office functions.
  • Proficiency in using Salesforce software or equivalent sales lead tracking program.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and handle some ambiguity with projects.
  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • Prior sales experience required, preferably in hospitality.
  • Association and/or hospitality sales experience preferred.
  • Occasional travel required..
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and MVR check.
