Under indirect supervision, performs variety of duties pertaining to installation, calibration, repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic and mechanical biomedical equipment following manufacturer specifications and established preventative maintenance procedures; documents all work.
Essential Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and repairs biomedical and laboratory equipment and related systems; ensures correct operation; troubleshoots and coordinates repair of equipment that has little or no technical documentation.
- Performs preventative maintenance, electrical safety checks and equipment calibration on routine basis in accordance with JCAHO, CAP, AABB, NFPA99 and other related regulations.
- Receives new equipment; performs acceptance checks; delivers to and/or installs equipment in department; inservices customer(s) on proper operations and potential hazardous or safety issues; ensures receipt of operations and technical service manuals.
- Ensures upgrades, modifications and/or health device alerts are properly handled and resolved to improve patient/staff safety or equipment performance; orders and installs hardware as appropriate.
- Informs customers of equipment status; documents actions taken in accurate and timely manner; performs all repairs, maintenance and checks according to manufacturer specifications.
- Provides resource to customers; liaisons with outside resources as appropriate; understands and communicates to customers the clinical value, use and technology of equipment; ensures provision of user inservice training as requested.
- Participates in job-related seminars, service schools and AAMI meetings; provides inservice and cross training to other biomedical staff; documents training.
- Assesses safety control implications; takes appropriate action; performs follow-up on action to ensure closure.
- Performs nitrous oxide scanning as appropriate.
- Ensures timely completion and documentation of preventative maintenance; ensures integrity and calibration of test equipment on scheduled basis; informs supervisor about overall status of preventative maintenance, problems and concerns.
