What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Library Intern position at National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)?
The NAIC is looking for a Research Library Summer Intern to be apart of the NAIC's Leaders of Tomorrow Summer Internship Program. The NAIC Research Library team works to support the information and research needs of NAIC staff and state insurance regulators. Our library also serves as the archives for the NAIC, and preserving its history is a primary pillar of our work. We hope to provide the selected intern with an array of projects and tasks that will give them a comprehensive overview of both library science and insurance regulation, including, but not limited to, cataloging, research, information literacy, and regulatory and legal activity.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and draft content for the Insurance Topic pages, including updating existing pages and creating new ones, while collaborating with and learning from subject matter experts across a wide range of insurance and regulatory topics.
- Work with Research Library staff to redesign the Research Library SharePoint site, using customer experience (CX) principles to enhance usability; create and organize content; develop new pages and tabs; and curate research tools and cross‑functional resources to better support staff research activities.
- Assist with digital archiving and management of library materials by creating and updating metadata; participate in collection development activities; and contribute to maintaining and updating the public‑facing library website to reflect available resources.
- Advance your professional skills and grow technical knowledge
- Attend NAIC employee events
Education and/or Experience required:
- Juniors and Seniors pursuing a bachelor's degree in library science, history, communications, pre-law, public policy, or a similar degree from an accredited college or university.

Internship Program Details:
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid, up to three days in the Kansas City, Missouri office
- Hours: Monday – Friday, up to 37.5 hours per week
- Summer Internship Dates: 6/1/2026-8/7/2026
- Compensation: $24/hour
