Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven Program & Volunteer Coordinator to support our signature NAMI programs, manage volunteers, and strengthen community relationships. This role blends program coordination, outreach, and people-centered engagement.
Job Description:
This is a part-time hybrid position performed in the NAMI HC office along with teleworking (after a probationary period). Position requires flexible hours and includes occasional weekends and evenings. Requires regular participation and attendance at community events and meetings as they occur.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Coordination
- Recruit, manage, and support participants and facilitators for NAMI programs:
- Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, Basics (2x/year)
- Family Support Groups (3 monthly groups)
- Peer Support Groups (2 groups, 1–2x/month)
- In Our Own Voice (IOOV) presentations (ongoing)
- Ending the Silence (ETS) presentations (as requested)
- Submit monthly program reports to NAMI Maryland and NAMI National.
- Serve as liaison to NAMI Maryland for trainings, updates, and monthly coordinator calls.
- Maintain relationships with community partners including On Our Own, Humanim, Way Station, local hospitals, the Detention Center, and Grassroots.
- Attend meetings with county agencies, HCPSS, and mental health professionals.
Volunteer Management
- Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers for programs and outreach events.
- Review applications, maintain the volunteer database, and collaborate with staff on volunteer needs.
- Track volunteer hours and assist with developing a Volunteer Recognition program.
General Responsibilities
- Participate in NAMI HC events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Provide information, support, and referrals to callers and walk-ins via the Resource Line.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 3 years of program/volunteer management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with diverse personalities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Knowledge of Howard County resources preferred.

- Passion for mental health advocacy and empathy for individuals and families.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.
