Job Overview
NAMI Richland County is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Part-Time Program Assistant to focus on the growth and expansion of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program and Parent Advocacy Support Services (PASS). This role will be essential to supporting the Executive Director in managing the logistics of the CIT program, meeting with local law enforcement to help compile policies and procedures relating to mental health incidents and supporting day-long trainings for first responders. Additionally, this role is crucial in maintaining the seamless operation of the PASS program, an essential position that provides education, support and advocacy to parents and guardians of youth 21 years and younger.
This position involves passing necessary clearances, including a background check, holding a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and lived experience with mental health. This position offers flexibility, a positive work culture and a supportive learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete and Pass NAMI Ohio Peer Supporter Certification.
- Provide support, information, and guidance for navigating child serving systems.
- Develop strong partnerships with parents and agencies based on mutual trust and respect.
- Explain policies, procedures, and laws to parents related to various child-serving systems.
- Provide individualized care navigation to parents/guardians in the Parent Advocacy Support Services (PASS) program.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Assist the Executive Director in coordinating CIT trainings.
- Work alongside law enforcement agencies to understand database systems, mental health incident reporting, and measurable data.
- Assist the Executive Director in managing and reviewing law enforcement agency mental health policies and implementing CIT Peer Review feedback.
- Collaborate with local providers to connect management team members to the CIT Advisory Council.
- Draft and submit all paperwork and reports in a timely manner to the Executive Director.
- Assist in the development of educational topics and materials for parental workshops and community education/presentations.
- Collect meaningful data, measuring program activities, satisfaction, and identify service gaps for improvement opportunities.
- Assure safety and security standards are implemented in a professional manner.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience and knowledge, personal and/or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental illness.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds, occasionally.
- Must be able to display integrity, model behavior, develop people and build teams.
- Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must be goal-oriented, flexible, and adaptable to potential unanticipated opportunities.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Possess strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be comfortable with public speaking, including effective presentation skills and problems solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and provide leadership support as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout service area, requiring use of a personal vehicle/own transportation with a current driver’s license, insurance, and registration.
- Fluency with MS Office (PPT, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- An Interest in or experience with social services, advocacy, public safety, or mental health initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an Associate’s degree with at least 5 years of demonstrated advocacy and customer service background.
- Experience with mental health services, education, and general advocacy.
- Experience with non-profit fundraising preferred.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
- Must hold a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
- Must pass a background check.
