Role and Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and coordinating support groups. Tasks include:

• Regularly attend NAMI Connection Support Groups, Q Connect and TAG Groups, and any other applicable NAMI support groups to build rapport with facilitators and participants.

• Obtain availability from leaders and greeters; develop, publish and communicate the leader and greeter schedule monthly; and update Bloomerang Volunteer accordingly.

• Fill in for volunteer leaders and greeters when they cancel, and backups are unavailable.

• Be available when additional support is needed during and after support groups.

• Continuously follow up with program participants and prospective participants to offer and provide ongoing support, referrals and education.

• Vet Q Connect and TAG participants for group safety.

 

The Program Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and coordinating NAMI Peer to Peer classes. Tasks include:

• Schedule and coordinate seasonal Peer-to-Peer classes, including working with partner organizations to secure class locations.

• Obtain availability from class leaders for upcoming classes and keep Bloomerang Volunteer up to date with leader opportunities.

• Manage and coordinate class enrollment, participant outreach, attendance, and graduation certificates.

• Support and fill in for volunteer leaders and presenters when they cancel, and backups are unavailable.

• Continuously follow up with participants and prospective participants to offer and provide ongoing support, referrals and education.

 

The Program Coordinator is responsible for offering ongoing support and education to program leaders. Tasks include:

• Maintain strong working relationships with leaders and presenters through consistent outreach and interactions.

• Plan and facilitate frequent gatherings for leaders, including leader meetings.

• Identify and mentor potential leaders, greeters, producers, and presenters.

• Co-lead NAMI trainings.

• Train and support virtual program producers and greeters.

• Identify and communicate upcoming training opportunities to leaders and prospective volunteers.

• Support and facilitate data collection and program evaluation tasks.

 

As a member of the Programs Team, the Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting other NAMI COS Programs and NAMI COS outreach. Tasks include:

• Facilitate the NAMI portion of in-school presentations with community partners.

• Engage in storytelling to support programs, including In Our Own Voice, Voices of Hope and Recovery, and Voices of Hope.

• Maintain Colorado peer and family specialist (CPFS) certification through the completion of continuing education and appropriate record keeping/submission.

• Engage in a CPFS capacity with community peers in NAMI’s 1:1 peer support program and accurately track data and outcomes for these engagements.

• Obtain and maintain all applicable NAMI program leader certifications.

• Lead outreach efforts at community events and with local organizations including colleges and businesses.

• Support the NAMI COS resource and referral line by answering calls and transfers, and assist front desk volunteers with navigating calls, walk-ins and emails.

• Actively participate in the planning and execution of major NAMI community events.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Proficiency with Zoom and comfort leading in the virtual space

• Ability and desire to become proficient with NAMI data and tracking systems including Canva, Airtable and Bloomerang Volunteer

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

• Compassion, empathy, and understanding, with strong boundaries

                                   

Preferred Skills

• Nonprofit experience highly preferred

• Volunteer management experience

• Active Colorado Peer & Family Specialist certification (required within six months of hire)

• NAMI peer program leader certifications (required post-hire)

• De-escalation training

Additional Notes

This is a non-clinical peer position, ideal for someone who (1) identifies as living with a mental health condition, (2) has been in a strong place in their recovery for 2 years, and (3) is comfortable talking about their journey.

 

This position reports to the Director of Programs and directly supports our peer support and education volunteers. It requires evening work, with some weekends. Due to NAMI programming being in the community, a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and valid insurance with state minimum coverage is required.

 

This position is grant-funded through November 2027, with intent to fund permanently thereafter.
