What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heliophysics: Computational Studies of Solar and Stellar Flares position at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)?
Our research focuses on understanding basic processes which occur in solar and stellar flares through analyzing data, development of theory, and computational studies. Specifically, we are seeking to understand what mechanisms are involved in the production and transfer of radiation in the flaring atmosphere. Our research makes use of data collected from a variety of ground- and space-based instruments, and we work closely with the teams that operate these instruments. Current research projects include understanding how ion beams may heat the atmosphere during flares, a study of how varying electron and ion beam parameters affects the radiation produced during from flares, and an investigation into how white light is produced in flares.
