Food Pantry Manager
The Food Pantry Manager is responsible for overseeing all of the operations of the pantry including: distribution of food, inventory management, record keeping and analysis, and supervising volunteers and two part time staff.
Hours/Days: 30-35 hrs week (Monday- Thursday)
Salary & Benefits: 50-55k annual salary (based on experience and hours), paid time off, paid sick time, paid holidays, 401k savings opportunity
Responsibilities:
Food Distribution Management
- Oversee daily food distribution including set-up, implementation and record keeping for mobile market, food pantry, and home deliveries
- Ensure the overall shopper experience is a positive and welcoming one
- Act as a “greeter” during pantry hours to welcome shoppers and help with making future appointments
Inventory Management
- Oversee procurement of food and personal care items for the pantry from all sources including (but not limited to): the Greater Boston Food Bank, partner organizations, supermarkets, food rescue organizations, farms, local suppliers/wholesalers, and community drives
- Maintain good relationships with all vendors and seeks out new sources as needed
- Serve as the NSC’s primary contact with the GBFB, placing orders and providing monthly reports
- Track food pantry inventory to assess needs, make sure all stock is up to code, and place orders as needed
- Identify most-needed items for community food drives, assist with planning food drives as needed
- Coordinate the pick-up and delivery of items, ensure all goods are suitable for client distribution
- Be the pantry’s ServSafe manager, ensuring that food and health safety requirements are being met (willingness to obtain ServSafe certification)
- Create and implement systems to track, rotate, store, and improve inventory according to client needs and feedback
Volunteer and Employee Coordination
- Work with Director of Community Engagement to identify areas where volunteer support is needed and facilitate volunteer onboarding and management
- Work with Director of Community Engagement to ensure that pantry volunteers have up-to-date training and adequate support to complete their responsibilities in a manner consistent with the NSC mission and values
- Supervise a rotating crew of volunteers during pantry shopping and pantry prep shifts
- Supervise two part time employees
- Facilities Management
- Maintain pantry order and cleanliness
- Oversee upkeep, management, and repair of appliances and equipment; help with pantry maintenance as needed
Team Work
- Support other staff as needed
- Participate in community events
- Engage with the Food Pantry community: The Greater Boston Food Bank, other pantries in the area, etc.
Other qualifications:
● Ability to lift 35 lbs and be active/standing for long periods of time
● Strong organizational skills
● Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and take thoughtful initiative
● Strong interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication skills
● Proficient computer skills
Preferred:
● Bilingual/multilingual skills are a plus! (Especially , Portuguese, Mandarin and Russian)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
