Position: Network Engineer
Location: Chesapeake, VA (100% Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months Contract
Position Overview
Client is seeking a full-time, onsite Network Engineer to support the client's enterprise network infrastructure on a staff augmentation engagement. The ideal candidate will possess strong Layer 2 networking expertise, foundational Layer 3 knowledge, and introductory wireless networking experience, with additional exposure to enterprise routing, firewalls, and Network Access Control (NAC).
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of Layer 2 (L2) networking concepts, including:
- VLANs
- Tagging (802.1Q)
- Trunking
- Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA)
- Spanning Tree Protocol (STP/RSTP/MSTP)
- Foundational knowledge of Layer 3 (L3) networking
- Experience with enterprise switching environments
- Ability to troubleshoot and support network connectivity issues
Preferred Skills
- Strong understanding of Layers 2β7 networking concepts
- Experience with:
- Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
- Enterprise firewalls
- Wi-Fi/Wireless LAN technologies
- Network Access Control (NAC) solutions
- Understanding of integrating switching, routing, wireless, and security technologies in enterprise environments
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or Network Operations Engineer with hands-on enterprise networking experience
- Strong switching background with exposure to routing and wireless technologies
- Experience supporting complex enterprise networks in onsite environments
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Aruba, or Juniper certifications are a plus.
