Safety Manager – Transportation & Warehouse

Location: Two warehouse locations & in the field within our business footprint

Position Summary

Nassau Provisions is seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Manager to lead and strengthen our company-wide safety culture across transportation and warehouse operations. This role is heavily focused on transportation safety, DOT compliance, fleet and driver oversight, and accident prevention, while also supporting warehouse safety initiatives, OSHA compliance, and facility safety programs.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience from a food distribution, transportation, logistics, or warehouse environment. This individual must be highly organized, field-oriented, and capable of building strong relationships with drivers, warehouse associates, supervisors, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Safety & Compliance (70-75%)

• Lead all transportation safety initiatives for company drivers, fleet operations, and delivery teams
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state and local transportation regulations
• Conduct ride-alongs, driver observations, driver training, pre-employment driving tests and route safety evaluations
• Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents; determine root causes and implement corrective actions
• Coordinate post-accident investigations, reporting, and retraining programs
• Develop and conduct ongoing driver safety training, defensive driving programs, and new driver onboarding
• Monitor safety KPIs, insurance claims, and fleet incident trends
• Partner with transportation leadership to improve driver safety performance and reduce preventable accidents
• Lead regular transportation safety meetings and toolbox talks
• Assist with fleet safety inspections and vehicle safety standards
• Complete a delivery route when extra support is needed

Warehouse Safety Oversight (25–30%)

• Support warehouse safety compliance programs across receiving, selection, loading, sanitation, and equipment operations
• Conduct facility safety audits, hazard assessments, and OSHA inspections
• Monitor PPE usage, forklift certification programs, lockout/tagout procedures, and warehouse best practices
• Assist with injury prevention initiatives and ergonomic safety programs
• Partner with warehouse leadership to ensure safe operating procedures are consistently followed
• Help maintain emergency preparedness plans, evacuation procedures, and incident response protocols
• Coordinate safety committee meetings and employee engagement initiatives

Administrative & Leadership Duties

• Maintain accurate safety records, training documentation, and compliance reports
• Track safety metrics and prepare reports for leadership review
• Recommend and implement safety process improvements
• Stay current on changing DOT, OSHA, and food distribution safety regulations
• Promote a positive, accountability-driven safety culture throughout the organization
• Serve as the primary internal resource for transportation and operational safety matters

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of safety experience in transportation, food distribution, logistics, warehouse operations, or similar environment
• CDL or prior transportation operations is required
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and OSHA standards
• Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis
• Familiarity with warehouse operations, fleet safety, and food distribution environments
• Experience leading safety training programs and compliance initiatives
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to influence employees at all levels of the organization
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA certification, DOT certification, or related safety credentials preferred
• Experience in foodservice distribution environments strongly preferred

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Frequent walking through warehouse and transportation areas
• Ability to work in refrigerated, freezer, and dry warehouse environments
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
• Ability to travel locally between facilities or accompany drivers on routes as needed
• Flexible schedule availability, including early mornings or occasional evenings when required

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
