The Nassau County Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Emergency Preparedness Planner to support planning, coordination, and response activities related to public health emergencies and disasters. This position assists with developing emergency preparedness plans, coordinating with healthcare and community partners, and supporting response operations to protect the health and safety of Nassau County residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain public health emergency preparedness and response plans, procedures, and related documentation.
- Coordinate preparedness activities with healthcare facilities, emergency management, and local, state, and federal partners.
- Support emergency response operations during public health incidents, including plan activation, coordination, and reporting.
- Plan and support trainings, drills, and exercises; assist with after-action reports and improvement planning.
- Maintain emergency preparedness records, contact lists, and distribution lists.
- Participate in meetings, coalitions, and workgroups related to public health emergency preparedness.
- Assist with preparedness grant activities and reporting requirements, as applicable.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Emergency Management, or a closely related field and five (5) years of satisfactory experience in emergency response planning;
- OR
- Bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of satisfactory experience in emergency response planning.
Residency Requirement:
- One (1) year of Nassau County residency is REQUIRED.
Salary:
- Starting salary: $65,789
- 7/1/26: $68,386
- After 6 months: $77,571
- After 1 year: $101,799
Civil Service Examination Requirement:
This is a Civil Service position. Candidates must successfully pass a written Civil Service examination. After taking the exam, the candidate must be reachable on the Civil Service List when established.
Work Requirements:
- May be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, during public health emergencies or activations.
- Some travel may be required.
