Controller - Manufacturing / Distribution

Position Summary:

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with GAAP. This individual will lead the accounting team, manage monthly and quarterly financial close processes, oversee audits, and provide financial analysis to support executive management and business decision-making.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical accounting expertise, proven management experience, and the ability to improve financial reporting, systems, and processes. Experience with NetSuite and advanced Excel reporting is highly desirable.

This role will be on site in our Hicksville offices.

Key Responsibilities / How You Will Make an Impact:

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

• Oversee accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and related accounting activities.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure accurate, timely financial statements.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Oversee financial consolidations and multi-entity reporting, as applicable.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports, management dashboards, KPIs, and variance analyses for executive management.

Internal Controls, Compliance & Audits

• Maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable reporting requirements.
• Coordinate external financial audits, bank field audits, and other regulatory examinations.
• Oversee tax filings and required compliance reporting.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Lead the annual budgeting process and support financial forecasting and long-range planning.
• Monitor actual results against budget, investigate variances, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Partner with department heads to support financial planning and operational decision-making.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

• Supervise, develop, and support accounting team members while ensuring accountability and timely completion of responsibilities.
• Collaborate with Finance, Treasury, Operations, and IT to resolve issues and improve workflows.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work, improve reporting accuracy, and strengthen internal controls.

ERP Systems & Reporting

• Oversee Finance-related ERP functionality and serve as a key resource for NetSuite.
• Support ERP implementation, system enhancements, and financial reporting improvements.
• Develop and enhance Excel-based reporting tools using Power Query, PivotTables, complex formulas, dashboards, and automation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, General Ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and financial close processes.
• Experience managing accounting operations, audits, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Hands-on ERP experience; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA license or CPA candidacy.
• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or consumer products.
• Experience with ERP implementations, system enhancements, and reporting automation.
