The Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES is currently seeking a School Counselor. The successful candidate will collaborate with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to enhance the academic, personal, social, and career development of students in their respective grades. - Working with students of varying ability levels and providing data regarding student progress
- Supporting the mandates of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for transition programs and services specifically designed for students with disabilities to achieve post-secondary goals
- Expanding career pathways by helping students build their academic, technical and professional skills through work-based learning experiences
- Providing career counseling, planning and participation in Career and Technical Education (CTE) coursework and work-based learning programs
- Implementing the mandates of Erin's Law to support social and emotional competencies for all students in school programs
- New York State Education Department Certification: School Counselor
- Proven ability to develop and implement data-driven plans to meet individual student needs
- Experience working with students with disabilities at the middle and high school levels is preferred
- Demonstrated cultural competency through familiarity in working with students and families of diverse backgrounds
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as proficiency in using Microsoft Office products
