Overview : The Advocacy Manager is responsible for identifying, activating, and continually engaging family members of students who attend Nashville’s charter schools. This position will develop family members as leaders in their communities to lead and execute initiatives aligned with the organizational mission of the NCC. The ideal candidate has experience with parent and community organizing and demonstrated ability to build collective power across lines of difference.

Key Responsibilities :

Community Organizing :

  • Build and maintain relationships with local leaders, organizations, and other partners to strengthen community networks
  • Conduct visits with charter school families and / or community members to cultivate relationships with key school stakeholders
  • Coordinate and facilitate events, workshops, and meetings to raise awareness and increase participation in opportunities to advocate for issues that impact public school students, families, and educators
  • Implement and lead advocacy campaigns that mobilize charter school families and lead to policy change at the local community, city, and / or statewide level
  • Lead voter registration efforts in collaboration with NCC member schools and community partners

Family Engagement :

  • Attend school-based events held at NCC member schools with the goal of meeting, engaging, and building relationships with charter school families
  • Build school-based teams of engaged family members to drive local issue work and a unified voice on behalf of their students, schools, and communities
  • Complete regular reporting activities, including timely submission of data entry of field activities and relevant meeting reports
  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive database of current and prospective family members  from Nashville charter schools that can be called on for advocacy efforts
  • Prepare and distribute regular family newsletter covering relevant issues, updates, and opportunities to engage on behalf of public school families
  • Project Management :

  • Develop project plans and responsibly manage allocated resources, materials, and supplies
  • Support special projects (e.g., event planning and management, fundraising initiatives, and timely priorities) to ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget

    Required Qualifications :

    This position requires a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation (car), and proof of adequate personal auto insurance, as the individual will be required to drive to attend job-related functions. Other required qualifications include :

  • 2-3 years of successful organizing experience
  • Strong Spanish and English language proficiency, including the ability to read, write, and converse fluently in both languages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders and adapt messages depending on the audience
  • Proven track record of successfully managing projects, including the ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Collegiality, a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and civility
  • Proficiency with G-Suite or Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weeknights or weekends
  • Must pass background check prior to employment
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Nashville’s education landscape and charter schools, including experience working in a school or school-adjacent organization
  • Prior experience in community or political organizing
  • Deep understanding of base building and power analysis
  • Campaigning, lobbying, advocacy, training, or other relevant experience
  • Experience leading training or professional development
  • Analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to use data to make decisions

    The NCC team works in a hybrid setting, with the option to work from home or use our Nashville office as desired. In addition, there are regular in-person meetings in the office, schools, or other settings. We are flexible on set business hours to meet the needs of our team members, but the role does require a daily (Monday to Friday) presence at predictable times. This role will have some evening, weekend, and holiday obligations.

    Compensation and Benefits :

    The NCC offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $55-65K, and benefits include paid time off, paid parental leave, and medical benefits. This position is eligible for the organization’s 401(k) plan with up to a 5% employer match.
