Job Summary
The Manager ED Business Operations is responsible for overseeing the administrative and operational functions of the emergency departments. This role supports the ED leadership team by managing operational resources, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The Manager ED Business Operations works collaboratively with clinical leaders and hospital administration to optimize departmental efficiency, support strategic initiatives, and improve patient access and operational outcomes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Oversee the administrative and business operations of the emergency departments to ensure efficient and effective departmental performance. Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost control and performance improvement.
- Oversees supply and equipment management ensuring optimal inventory control and resource utilization to streamline operations and enhance overall departmental efficiency.
- Collaborates closely with ED Nursing and ED Medical Directors to align departmental goals, and drive initiatives that enhance clinical quality, operational efficiency, and patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, files, and documentation related to financial reports, operational metrics, contracts, and compliance requirements. Compile, validate, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to hospital leadership departments.
- Collect, organize, and analyze operational data such as patient volumes, length of stay, throughput metrics, and productivity indicators.
- Manage and maintain departmental databases, spreadsheets, and reporting systems to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
- Coordinate the collection and submission of data required for regulatory reporting, accreditation, and internal performance reviews.
- Represent the ED at community outreach events, health fairs, and organizational initiatives to promote ED services, strengthen community relationships, and support the organization’s mission and public awareness efforts.
- Collaborate with ED leadership to develop operational strategies that enhance patient flow, resource utilization, and service delivery.
- Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for hospital leadership and departmental management.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in strategic planning, program development, and process improvement initiatives with the ED.
- Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between clinical staff, administration, and support departments.
- Support quality improvement and performance management initiatives by providing operational and financial insights.
- Minimum of Associate Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field and/or paramedic certification required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare administration, hospital operations, preferably in an emergency department or acute care setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
