The Position

Senior Mental Health Workers provide professional clinical casework counseling and treatment services to mentally and emotionally disturbed persons and provide consultation, information, and education to community groups, agencies, and individuals on human services programs. This position will work directly with older adult services providing community, home and placement-based services to individuals who are experiencing a severe mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness as well as those in placements both in and out of Napa County. This program works with individuals to support their recovery in any aspect of their life that they would like to work on to improve their life and work towards wellness and recovery.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future regular full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to twelve (12) months. Being bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary increases and Winter Time Off
  • 3.5% COLA Increase effective 7/1/2026
  • 32 hours of Winter Time Off


POSITION REQUIREMENT

Experience and Education
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:

Experience:
Two years of counseling experience in a mental health program including at least one year of case management.

Education:
Equivalent to completion of four years of college with major course work in psychology, sociology, or closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience can substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis).

License or Certificate:
**Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position. Possession of a valid California driver's license may be required for some assignments.

Special Qualifications:
  • A person employed in this class must be willing to work irregular hours and holidays and weekends as needed.
  • This position may require a large amount of driving, including visiting clients placed in other counties.

Supplemental questions will be scored by subject matter experts. The most qualified applicants from the scoring of the supplemental questions will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview. Oral Panel Interview Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 25, 2026

The most qualified candidates will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered to fill positions for up to one year.

Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers. This means that when Napa County experience emergencies (earthquakes, wildfire, power outage, etc.) you may be asked to pivot from your regular duties to provide critical services to those affected by the emergency (Cal. Gov. Code § 3101.)

SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
