WAREHOUSE MANAGER – NAPA HUB

Location: Portage, Indiana
Reports To: General Manager

This is an experienced warehouse leadership position responsible for the day-to-day operation of a high-volume distribution hub. Applicants must meet the minimum experience requirements below to be considered.

This is not an entry-level warehouse management position. Applicants without prior warehouse or distribution leadership experience should not apply.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive warehouse, distribution, or fulfillment leadership experience.
  • Prior experience directly supervising and managing warehouse employees.
  • Hands-on experience managing inventory accuracy, receiving, order fulfillment, cycle counting, and inventory discrepancies.
  • Experience overseeing shipping, delivery staging, route preparation, or distribution operations.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory systems, or comparable warehouse technology.
  • Experience establishing and monitoring employee productivity, accuracy, attendance, and performance expectations.
  • Experience coaching employees, addressing performance concerns, and developing warehouse personnel.
  • Experience using operational metrics or KPIs to evaluate warehouse performance.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse safety practices, material handling, forklift operations, and housekeeping expectations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution environment.

Candidates whose experience is primarily as a warehouse associate, driver, inventory clerk, or team lead without substantial responsibility for managing warehouse operations and employees may not meet the requirements of this position.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Automotive aftermarket or automotive parts distribution experience.
  • Multi-location distribution or hub-and-spoke delivery experience.
  • Experience supporting retail store replenishment.
  • Experience managing delivery drivers or transportation operations.
  • Experience with continuous improvement, Lean, 5S, or warehouse process improvement.
  • Forklift certification.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the Portage NAPA Hub.

This position leads warehouse personnel and oversees receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, route staging, and delivery coordination to ensure assigned D&D NAPA locations receive accurate products on time.

The Warehouse Manager is accountable for inventory integrity, employee performance, warehouse productivity, route execution, safety, and continuous improvement.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESWarehouse Operations

  • Direct daily warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Ensure customer and store orders are accurately picked, packed, staged, and prepared for delivery.
  • Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe warehouse.
  • Ensure employees consistently follow established warehouse procedures.
  • Establish and maintain productivity and accuracy expectations.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor daily workflow and adjust staffing or priorities as necessary.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain inventory accuracy at or above established company standards.
  • Ensure receiving, transfers, returns, adjustments, and inventory transactions are completed accurately.
  • Manage cycle-counting activities and investigate inventory discrepancies.
  • Identify root causes of inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Reduce inventory shrink through disciplined inventory controls.
  • Maintain proper product storage, location accuracy, and warehouse organization.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment concerns.

Store Service

  • Ensure store orders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain established order fill-rate and order accuracy expectations.
  • Quickly investigate and resolve shortages, incorrect shipments, and inventory concerns.
  • Coordinate emergency and same-day order requests when required.
  • Partner with Store Managers and operational leadership to improve product availability and service.
  • Resolve warehouse-related concerns before they negatively affect store operations.

Transportation & Route Execution

  • Ensure delivery routes are staged, verified, loaded, and ready for departure according to schedule.
  • Verify order and route accuracy before departure.
  • Coordinate with delivery personnel to resolve route and delivery concerns.
  • Monitor delivery performance and on-time route departures.
  • Address recurring transportation or loading issues.
  • Support efficient utilization of drivers, vehicles, and delivery schedules.

Staffing & Leadership

  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop warehouse employees.
  • Schedule staffing based on workload and operational requirements.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing employee feedback.
  • Address attendance, productivity, quality, conduct, and safety concerns.
  • Develop employees for increased responsibility and advancement.
  • Promote teamwork, urgency, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with applicable company safety requirements and OSHA standards.
  • Conduct or coordinate routine safety meetings.
  • Ensure employees properly operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
  • Monitor required forklift training and certifications.
  • Maintain strong housekeeping and material-storage standards.
  • Identify and correct warehouse hazards.
  • Participate in workplace incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure employees comply with company policies and procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Improve warehouse productivity and labor efficiency.
  • Reduce picking, packing, receiving, and shipping errors.
  • Improve inventory accuracy.
  • Identify and eliminate unnecessary movement, handling, and process waste.
  • Recommend warehouse layout and workflow improvements.
  • Support implementation of new systems, technologies, and operating practices.
  • Use performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Performance may be evaluated using measures including:

  • Order Fill Rate: Greater than 98%
  • On-Time Route Departure: 100%
  • Order Accuracy: Greater than 99.5%
  • Inventory Accuracy: Greater than 99%
  • Cycle Count Completion: 100%
  • Inventory Shrink: Less than 0.25%
  • Orders Picked per Labor Hour: Within or better than established budget/goal
  • Warehouse Labor Cost: Within established budget
  • OSHA Recordables: Goal of zero
  • Safety Audit Score: Greater than 95%
  • Employee Turnover: Below established company goal

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

The Warehouse Manager is expected to:

DAILY OPERATIONAL EXPECTATIONS

Typical daily responsibilities include:

  • Review prior-day warehouse and distribution KPIs.
  • Conduct or lead the daily warehouse start-up meeting.
  • Review staffing and workload requirements.
  • Monitor receiving operations.
  • Oversee order fulfillment and staging.
  • Verify route preparation and loading.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies.
  • Conduct routine warehouse walkthroughs.
  • Monitor employee productivity and order accuracy.
  • Provide coaching and feedback throughout the day.
  • Address operational problems as they arise.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5 years of warehouse or distribution leadership experience required.
  • Previous experience directly managing warehouse employees required.
  • Inventory management and inventory-control experience required.
  • Automotive aftermarket, automotive parts, or retail distribution experience preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of warehouse management systems and inventory-control systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to analyze inventory, labor, productivity, and service data.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse workflow, receiving, order fulfillment, shipping, and material handling.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use company-specific inventory and distribution systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to safely operate or work around warehouse and material-handling equipment.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain required certification.
  • Ability to work in varying warehouse temperatures and environmental conditions.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
