Construction Quality Control Supervisor / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Job Summary

Nanuq is seeking an experienced Construction Quality Control Supervisor / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee all quality assurance and quality control activities associated with heavy civil construction, oil and gas infrastructure, remote camp construction, mechanical installation, structural steel fabrication, pipeline support facilities, and Arctic infrastructure projects on Alaska's North Slope.

This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining project quality requirements in accordance with the Company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System, client specifications, engineering drawings, contract documents, applicable codes, industry standards, document control and regulatory requirements.

The Quality Control Supervisor serves as the Company's primary quality representative and works closely with project management, engineering, field supervision, subcontractors, client representatives, third-party inspectors, and regulatory agencies to ensure all work is completed safely, correctly, and in full compliance with project requirements.

The successful candidate shall possess extensive experience with heavy civil construction and welding quality systems and be capable of independently interpreting construction drawings, specifications, welding procedures, engineering standards, and quality requirements while providing technical leadership to field personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Quality Management

• Implement project-specific Quality Control Plans.
• Administer NAFC's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
• Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Conduct quality planning meetings.
• Verify compliance with contract specifications.
• Ensure compliance with client quality requirements.
• Maintain project quality records.
• Coordinate client quality surveillance activities.
• Participate in internal and external quality audits.
• Promote continual improvement throughout project execution.

Welding Quality Assurance

• Serve as the project's Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), where qualified.
• Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
• Review Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Verify Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
• Monitor welding operations for compliance with approved procedures.
• Inspect weld fit-up, preparation, welding, and final acceptance.
• Coordinate required Non-Destructive Examination (NDE).
• Review radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual inspection reports.
• Verify weld traceability and documentation.
• Maintain weld maps and welding records.
• Coordinate repairs and reinspection activities.
• Verify compliance with applicable welding codes.

Construction Quality Control

• Perform daily quality inspections.
• Verify hold points and witness points.
• Conduct receiving inspections.

• Monitor workmanship.
• Verify construction tolerances.
• Coordinate third-party inspections.
• Document deficiencies.
• Verify corrective actions.

Maintain project documentation including:

Client Coordination

• Attend quality meetings.
• Interface with client quality representatives.
• Coordinate witness inspections.
• Support owner acceptance inspections.
• Participate in project turnover.
• Assist with commissioning activities.

Continuous Improvement

• Investigate quality deficiencies.
• Identify root causes.
• Develop corrective actions.
• Develop preventive actions.
• Recommend process improvements.
• Mentor field personnel regarding quality requirements.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Welding Technology, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of construction quality control experience on heavy civil, industrial, or oil and gas projects.
• Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience.
• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
• Demonstrated experience administering Quality Management Systems.
• Experience working under ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
• Experience working on remote Alaska or Arctic projects preferred.
• Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

This position requires work in remote Arctic environments under extreme weather conditions. Duties include walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders and scaffolding, inspecting excavations, entering industrial facilities, working around heavy equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds. Rotation schedules, extended work hours, and travel to remote project sites are required.
