OpenNMS, a wholly owned subsidiary of NantHealth, is looking for a seasoned User Experience Manager to join its growing team. Based in Cary, NC. this managerial role will be instrumental in developing the front-end user experience of an established world class open-source network monitoring solution in use by numerous Fortune 500 companies . As a team leader, this individual will require the skills to manage and interact across teams and organizations, think quickly on their feet, address challenges across all levels of experience design and always be a strong advocate for the user. Responsibilities will include team management, short-and long-term strategy and vision development, UX requirements definition as well as project and schedule coordination. This role will also require hands-on UX design work such as, UX architecture exploration and development, user research planning, and oversight of internal and agency projects.

A designer who is knowledgeable and works with the latest design tools and makes decisions based on the knowledge of the User’s needs, behavior, and environment. You successfully communicate and collaborate with all NantHealth’s departments because you did your research and clearly speak a common language. You work in close collaboration with our Product and Support teams to gain knowledge of our customers, users, and their unique needs and will often partner with these teams to identify research opportunities. Your knowledge of the latest development tools and methodologies allows you to make the right design decisions and ensures a successful collaboration with all OpenNMS Product development efforts.
Your background could include network monitoring or security, finance, game design, healthcare or any other industry that thrives by change in technology and human behavior. Your portfolio demonstrates a good balance of your stunning designs and experiences created by teams under your leadership.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- MFA, BFA, or BS in Interactive Design, User Experience Design, Human Factors, or equivalent
- 3 years of managing a small to midsize team of UX professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Provides primary input to hiring, firing, promotion, performance, and rewards decisions for direct reports
- 10 years’ experience developing/designing user centered applications
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of user centric design principles, user experience design, accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and development strategies, and the ability to develop a team around these principles and latest design practices.
- Ability to rally and lead the UX, Product, and Development teams around a shared design thinking methodology and culture
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence teams and build effective working relationships with individuals and groups at all levels as well as successful collaboration with external partners.
- Knowledge to promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards to build and evolve the OpenNMS product design language
- Proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools including Axure and the Adobe Creative suite
- Ability to span the spectrum from vision, storytelling, and ideation – to deep systematic detail design execution
- A clear understanding of the agile software development processes.
- Confidence in taking initiative and coordinating multiple projects at a time
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to rationalize and defend design decisions
- Ability to provide creative and constructive input and collect feedback from users and key stakeholders
- Extremely organized, detail-oriented with strong project and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access
- Understanding of program\project management principles and practices.
- Occasional travel to our locations (US wide, Ottawa, Canada & Belfast, Northern Ireland)
