Position Summary
The Elementary School Teacher provides standards-based instruction to students in grades K–5 in alignment with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS). The teacher fosters a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional development, and foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS) across core content areas
- Develop students’ foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including Exceptional Children (EC), English learners (EL), and academically gifted students
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate interventions and enrichment
- Assess student learning using formative and summative methods and use data to inform instruction
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, and assessments
- Create and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and appropriate behavior
- Establish clear expectations, routines, and classroom management practices
- Integrate instructional technology and digital tools to enhance learning
- Support students in developing problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional staff, and support personnel to improve student outcomes
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and data-driven instruction processes
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs
- Participate in parent conferences and school events
- Support students’ social-emotional development and promote positive relationships
- Implement school-wide initiatives such as MTSS, PBIS, or other intervention frameworks as applicable
- Participate in required professional development, meetings, and school activities
- Follow all Macon County Schools policies, procedures, and expectations
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration

- Knowledge of elementary curriculum content and instructional best practices
- Understanding of child development and early learning progression
- Ability to analyze and use student data to guide instruction

Physical Requirements
- Light to medium work classification
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with students throughout the day
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials and classroom items (up to 25 pounds)
Evaluation
- Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES) and Macon County Schools evaluation procedures
Terms of Employment
- Full-time, 10-month position
- Salary based on the North Carolina State Salary Schedule with applicable local supplement
- Work calendar determined by the district

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field from an accredited institution
- Valid North Carolina teaching license in Elementary Education (K–6 or appropriate licensure area)
- Knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS)
- Ability to meet all NCDPI and Macon County Schools employment requirements
