A distinguished 95-year-old gentleman residing in an exceptional Boston-area community is seeking a bright, engaging, thoughtful, and highly personable Intellectual Companion & Personal Aide.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys the company of an accomplished older gentleman and takes pleasure in conversation, ideas, books, history, current events, culture, and lifelong learning.

The ideal candidate will bring warmth, curiosity, maturity, and excellent judgment, while providing meaningful companionship and thoughtful assistance with his daily routine.

About the Role

The successful candidate will become a trusted and engaging presence in the gentleman's life, creating days that are intellectually stimulating, purposeful, and enjoyable.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing meaningful companionship and stimulating conversation around current events, history, literature, culture, the arts, and topics of mutual interest.
• Reading and discussing newspapers, books, magazines, correspondence, articles, and other materials.
• Encouraging intellectual engagement through documentaries, music, lectures, cultural programming, puzzles, trivia, chess, cards, and other activities.
• Accompanying him on walks, appointments, cultural outings, meals, errands, and other activities as appropriate.
• Helping structure and organize his day while encouraging a sense of independence, purpose, and enjoyment.
• Assisting with light personal organization and practical day-to-day matters.
• Paying close attention to his comfort, routine, and overall well-being, while maintaining a respectful and dignified approach.
• Maintaining communication with family members regarding schedules, activities, observations, and matters that may require attention.
• Serving as a reliable and reassuring presence while allowing him to remain as independent and engaged as possible.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking someone who is well educated, intellectually curious, articulate, emotionally mature, and genuinely interested in people.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging in thoughtful conversation and will have the confidence to introduce ideas, ask questions, and create opportunities for meaningful interaction.

A background in education, literature, history, the arts, journalism, law, medicine, academia, business, or another intellectually oriented field would be welcomed. We would also consider a retired professional or an exceptional college or graduate student who demonstrates maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and genuine intellectual curiosity.

Qualifications

• Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Comfortable discussing a wide range of subjects and ideas
• Dependable, discreet, patient, and trustworthy
• Previous experience with older adults is preferred, but not necessarily required
• Ability to anticipate needs and be proactive without being intrusive
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
• Excellent professional references
• Successful completion of a background check

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: Flexible and to be determined based on the candidate's availability and the gentleman's needs.

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.
