Overview:

Nannies and more…® International is seeking a highly experienced Private Educator / Academic Governess for a child, 10-years-old, within a structured home learning environment.

This is a long-term, full-time academic position designed for a seasoned educator who is confident working independently, developing curriculum, and partnering collaboratively with parents and outside tutors/specialists.

This is not a childcare role. The household is fully staffed. The position is exclusively focused on academic development, executive functioning growth, and enrichment.

The student is bright, curious, and highly capable. He has dyslexia and receives daily Orton-Gillingham literacy tutoring. The primary goal of this role is to accelerate literacy acquisition while building executive functioning skills, emotional confidence, and long-term academic independence.

He also has ADHD (medicated) and Level 1 Autism and thrives with predictable routines, calm authority, and clear expectations.

Core Responsibilities:

Academic Partnership & Reinforcement:

  • Observe portions of daily Orton-Gillingham tutoring sessions to understand instructional goals and progress.
  • Provide structured reinforcement later in the day through guided practice, projects, and real-world application.
  • Ensuring strong carryover between tutoring sessions and the remainder of the academic day is essential to support meaningful progress.
  • Support executive functioning development, including:
  • Planning and organization
  • Task initiation
  • Time management
  • Transitions

Project-Based Learning & Enrichment:

  • Design and lead engaging project-based learning in science, social studies, and enrichment subjects.
  • Create hands-on learning experiences, including experiments, discussions, and experiential projects.
  • Integrate literacy reinforcement naturally across subjects (without worksheet-heavy instruction).
  • Foster intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and academic confidence.

Structure & Emotional Development:

  • Establish and maintain predictable daily routines.
  • Reduce negotiation through calm, confident leadership.
  • Coach emotional regulation and resilience using developmentally appropriate strategies.
  • Balance warmth and relationship-building with clear expectations and accountability.

Ideal Background:

We welcome candidates with:

  • Elementary or Special Education teaching experience.
  • Learning Specialist or academic intervention backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with structured literacy approaches (OG familiarity welcomed but not required).
  • Experience supporting neurodiverse learners.

We especially welcome educators seeking a focused one-student environment where measurable progress and long-term partnership are prioritized.

Required Background & Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional teaching and governess experience.
  • Formal classroom teaching background.
  • Experience working as a Governess or Private Educator in a home setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting neurodiverse learners.
  • Experience with learning differences, including dyslexia and ADHD.
  • Familiarity with structured literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham familiarity welcomed but not required).
  • Candidates must have a clear background and a clear driving record.
  • Candidates must have a professional presence.

We will only consider candidates who possess this level of education and professional experience.

Ideal Professional Profile:

The ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Emotional steadiness and professional maturity.
  • Calm authority — warm but not permissive.
  • Confidence in leading structured academic days.
  • Ability to say, “This is what we’re doing now,” with clarity and reassurance.
  • Creativity and intellectual curiosity in lesson development.
  • Comfort working deeply and consistently with one child over time.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset.

Long-Term Vision:

This family seeks an educator who is motivated by:

  • Measurable academic growth.
