Job Summary:

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking candidates to support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance customer's core mission. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from customer staff and procedures. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and salary requirements dependent on Level Selected/Hired

  • Ensures compliance to federal and state laws as well as and company regulations and requirements for privacy and security of employee privacy and medical records.

  • Maintains knowledge of State and Federal Regulations, and company guidelines affecting practice and clinic operations.

  • Counsels employees for wellness, injuries and illness, and utilization of the Employee Assistance Program and employee concerns programs, under direction of the SOMD, Clinic Operations Manager, and Deputy Clinic Operations Manager.

  • Provides referrals to employees to see a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant when necessary.

  • Interfaces with other ESH&QA professionals, as needed, on specific employee issues.

  • Ensures compliance with Blood borne Pathogen Requirements.

  • Cross-trains as directed by clinic management in spirometry, audiometric, X-ray, phlebotomy and packaging of labs/urine testing.

  • Assists in the oversight of the medical treatment facility (MTF), including but not limited to patient evaluation and care, administration of diagnostic occupational health tests, as appropriate, and evaluating tests and their performance for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, plans, policies and procedures.

  • Maintains Inventory log/maintenance and organization of inventory.

  • Maintains EKG log and handling of Stat EKG requests, checking for return of test results on a timely basis, keeping a record of EKG testing, as they are sent for cardiology review/over read and returned. This may include STAT requests.

  • Responsible for daily room checks and equipment checks, other than lab/X-Ray equipment.

  • Assists clinicians in ordering supplies/medications under the direction of clinic management.

  • Works with the Medical Records Technician in maintaining the medical treatment facility (MTF) library of regulatory material electronically, with working copies as needed or in hardcopy if electronic copies are unavailable.

  • Responsible for documenting all clinic, e-mail and phone call encounters with employees.

  • Works with employees, clinicians, site occupational medical director, risk management, insurance adjusters, legal, supervision, safety, legal, HR, and other ES&H and project management in providing appropriate management of occupational injuries, illness, and concerns.

  • Provides prompt, accurate, notifications to those designated as “need to know” by DDR and e-mail of employee status on return to work, injury and illness, reports of potential or actual exposures, or those with safety concerns.

  • Responsible for being familiar with Surveillance requirements.

  • Assists in the development of a continuing clinical quality improvement (CQI) program to assess programs and functions in terms of regulatory compliance and best medical practices.

  • Prepares reports of findings and outcomes, makes recommendations for improvements and, when approved by the Medical Director, initiates corrective actions.

  • Keeps abreast of current developments in occupational health and associated laws and regulations, sharing knowledge and experience with staff.

  • Facilitates and assists with patient flow within the clinic including monitors vital signs as needed, collects and documents brief history of chief complaint when needed, assists physician, physician assistants and/or directs paramedics providing care to sick or injured workers.

  • Responsible for administration and maintenance of vaccines including temperature log requirements and is knowledgeable about quality Control procedure for maintenance of vaccines in power/equipment failure.

  • Under physician direction, administers immunizations and medications.

  • Responsible for initial contact with chief complaint, history, questionnaires, Dust Mask Approvals (COHN only for Dust Mask Approvals) and triage of walk-in encounters with employees.

  • Makes entries into employee medical records of Employee injuries, illnesses and treatment administered by project first aid and medical personnel as required by the company, client, State and Federal regulations.

  • Manages workers’ compensation cases and maintains workers’ compensation case files as appropriate and in accordance with the pertinent laws and regulations.

  • Supervises, conducts and documents periodic health and sanitation inspections.

  • Ensures that testing is performed correctly, and results appropriately documented, filed and, as appropriate, entered into the occupational health information database.

  • Ensures that appropriate information is provided to the employer/supervisor about medical restrictions without violating employee privacy/Health Information Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) requirements.

  • Accountable for knowledge of responsibilities when responding to stat to treatment room notification.

  • Participates in walk downs with other ES&H personnel.

  • Responsible for maintenance of wellness materials, and informational brochures for DOE Worker Programs.

  • Completes and maintain certifications for Drug and Alcohol testing.

  • Responsible for staying up to date with Health Services and required contractor Training, Policies and Procedures

  • Responsible for being available when on assigned call 24/7.

  • May be assigned to work/cross train with the Legacy Beryllium Program.

  • Responsible for working with HR as necessary on issues of FMLA/STD that often relate to return to work.

  • May be assigned to work/cross train with the Hearing Conservation Program.

  • May be assigned to serve as the Clinic Operations Manager or Deputy Clinic Operations Manager for day-to-day administration of the Occupational Medical Program.

  • May be assigned to represent Health Services on the EOC cadre.

Minimum Qualifications:

Nurse I

  • Associate degree in Science, Nursing (ASN) with current state RN licensure required, with bachelor’s degree preferred. BLS and ACLS certification required.

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse or ability to obtain desired.

  • 2 years prior nursing experience required. Quality Assurance/Continuing Quality Program experience required. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate and prioritize projects required.

  • Industrial Medicine experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations preferred.

  • Experience with Workers’ Compensation program case management preferred. Must have and maintain all credentialing requirements of the project including, but not limited to, a state license.

  • Experience, license, or certification in audiometry as specified in 29 CFR 1910.95(g) or equivalent state OSHA or federal safety program preferred.

Nurse II

  • Associate degree in Science, Nursing (ASN) with current state RN licensure required, with bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • BLS and ACLS certification required.

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse or ability to obtain desired.

  • 5 years as a Registered Nurse in a medical facility.

  • Must be a registered nurse (RN) and have a valid Tennessee State License. Quality Assurance/Continuing Quality Program experience required.

  • Experience in Industrial Medicine is strongly preferred.

  • Training and/or certification in Medical Case Management preferred. Knowledge of Tennessee State Workers’ Compensation laws and experience with Workers’ Compensation program case management preferred.

  • Must possess and maintain all credentialing requirements of the project including, but not limited to, a state license. Experience, license, or certification in audiometry as specified in 29 CFR 1910.95(g) or equivalent state OSHA or federal safety program preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations is preferred.

  • Must have strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate and prioritize projects.

  • Must have the ability to adapt to changes as they occur.
