**Job Description** This internship is a collaborative partnership between the NANA Regional Corporation and the Anchorage Museum. By combining NANA’s commitment to shareholder development with the Anchorage Museum’s dedication to preserving and sharing the diverse stories of the North, this program provides a unique, hands-on professional immersion for students. As a NANA College Shareholder intern, you will join our team in the Anchorage Museum’s Archives to gain practical experience in archival stewardship. You will work directly with the museum’s collections, supporting the preservation and accessibility of materials that help tell the greater story of our region, all while contributing to the museum's mission to be a museum of people, place, planet, and potential, in and of the North, with creativity and imagination for what is possible. This position is an employee of NANA Regional Corporation who will be seconded to the Anchorage Museum for the duration of the internship. While employed by NANA, the intern will complete their day-to-day work under the direction and supervision of the Anchorage Museum’s designated point of contact. NANA will provide lodging and transportation for applicants outside the Anchorage/Matsu Valley area. For more details, feel free to reach out! This role may close before the listed deadline, so get your application in today! **Responsibilities** **Archival Processing:** Assist with the organization, preservation, and cataloging of archival collections to ensure long-term stability and ease of access. **Collections Management:** Support the digitization and management of historical photographs and documents using professional-grade scanning equipment and databases. **Research & Inquiry:** Assist museum staff and researchers in locating materials and responding to information requests related to regional history. **Metadata Entry:** Maintain accurate record-keeping by entering descriptive metadata into the museum’s collections management system. **Physical Preservation:** Assist in the re-housing of fragile materials into acid-free folders and containers to maintain archival integrity. **Professional Development:** Participate in departmental projects, internal meetings, and specialized training sessions as scheduled. **Collaboration:** Work alongside museum professionals to learn about the various facets of museum operations beyond the archives. **Other duties as assigned** other duties may be assigned as part of the internship department and the Anchorage Museum. **Qualifications** Applicants must be a shareholder of NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., or a direct descendant of a shareholder. In accordance with NANA's Shareholder Preference Hiring Policy, priority will be given to NANA shareholders first, followed by shareholder descendants. Must be 18 years or older. Must be enrolled in college or a vocational school full-time and complete one semester of postsecondary education. Proficient in MS Office. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Be organized and have excellent administrative skills. Preferred Requirements Valid Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicle insurance policy. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements **Weather:** Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside. **Noise level:** The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere. **Description of environment:** Office building with standard office environment. **Physical requirements:** Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. **Travel:** No Competencies **Technical Competencies** Archival Research: Ability to conduct methodical research and follow established classification systems. Attention to Detail: High accuracy in data entry, record-keeping, and handling delicate historical materials. Digital Proficiency: Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a readiness to learn specialized database software. **Operational Competencies** Time Management: Capacity to manage a ~20-hour work week effectively and meet project deadlines. Organization: Ability to maintain an orderly workspace and follow standardized archival workflows. Problem-Solving: Capability to identify inconsistencies in records and seek guidance from supervisors when needed. **Interpersonal Competencies** Communication: Professional verbal and written communication skills suitable for interacting with staff and researchers. Cultural Awareness: Respect for diverse historical perspectives and an understanding of the significance of Alaskan history.
