**Job Description** The Grants Manager plays a pivotal role in writing grants and overseeing the efficient and compliant administration and management of grants within Atautchikun. This position is responsible for researching funding opportunities, writing and submitting grant proposals, managing the full grant lifecycle (pre-award to post-award), and ensuring ongoing compliance and reporting through the entire life cycle of grants, from application to reporting, ensuring adherence to grant guidelines, and fostering effective communication between internal teams and external funding agencies. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in securing grants, possess excellent writing and analytical skills, and have the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. This role reports to the Executive Director and plays a critical role in supporting Atautchikun’s mission of securing sustainable funding to benefit NANA shareholders and regional communities. **_This position may be based at NANA's Corporate Office in Kotzebue, AK, or from Anchorage, AK subject to candidate qualifications, preference, and company approval. This position will be posted until filled and candidates will be interviewed as they are identified._** **Responsibilities** **Grant Writing & Proposal Development** Participates and coordinates in the development, writing, and submission of compelling grant proposals, letters of intent, and supporting documentation. Collaborate with internal and external partners to gather data, outcomes, and narratives for proposals. Tailor proposals for various funders including federal, state, foundation, and private sources. Research: Research and identify grant opportunities that meet the needs of our shareholders and is consistent with the strategic direction of Atautchikun and NANA Economic Development and Sustainability Department. Assists with preparation of grant applications through research, collection, and development of supporting data and Grant Application and Submission: Coordinate and facilitate the grant application process, ensuring all required documents and information are submitted accurately and on time. Work closely with program managers and grant writers to develop compelling and comprehensive grant May lead or assist in managing grant-related staff or consultants (e.g., writers, researchers, or admin support) as needed. Grant Administration & Compliance Oversee and manage the full lifecycle of awarded grants—from pre-award to closeout—including compliance, reporting, and audit readiness. Ensure strict adherence to grant requirements, terms, and conditions. Coordinate with Finance to track and monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and financial reporting requirements. Monitor project and grant timelines, ensuring deliverables and milestones are met. Grant Compliance: Stay informed about grant regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements for current and potential Review grants financial requirements and accounting Coordinate fiscal compliance with funding agency. Ensure strict adherence to grant terms, conditions, and reporting deadlines. Collaborate with program managers to address any compliance issues Ensures projects and programs are on track to be completed within grant timelines and Communication and Relationship Building: Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization and funding Establish and maintain positive relationships with grantors, responding to inquiries and providing necessary Multi-level coordination with internal and external partners in all stages of the grant Stakeholder Coordination Act as liaison between Atautchikun and funding agencies, tribal and city governments, and partner organizations. Represent Atautchikun in external meetings related to grants and funding strategies, including those with city and tribal entities, regional organizations, and anchor institutions. Budget Oversight: Collaborate with finance and program teams to develop and monitor grant Ensure that expenditure aligns with approved budgets and grant guidelines and correct as Track and report on financial aspects of grant-funded Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports to funding agencies in accordance with grant reporting requirements, highlighting project achievements, milestones, and financial status. Collaborate with program managers and finance to gather relevant data for reporting Documentation and Recordkeeping: Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all grant-related documents, including applications, agreements, and reports. Ensure that documentation is readily accessible for internal and external Maintains a grant repository to monitor all grants and opportunities effectively and Drafts and sends project status spreadsheet to Executive Director weekly. Maintains a grant opportunity pipeline database that tracks upcoming and existing grant opportunities being developed, shares with Executive Director weekly. This position has no supervisory Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to meet deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours. May be required to travel **Qualifications** Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Business Management, Business Administration, etc.) preferred. Proven experience in grant writing, with a successful track record of securing funding and managing grants through Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Strong research skills and attention to detail. Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Deep understanding of budgeting and financial reporting related to grants. Strong communication and interpersonal Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Creativity and strategic thinking in crafting compelling Passion for Atautchikun’s mission and commitment to its goals. Strong organizational and project management Knowledge of rural development, infrastructure, alternative energy, and/or economic development desired. The Grant Administrator may be required to take on additional responsibilities related to fundraising and development activities. **Working Conditions and Physical Requirements** Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside. Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere. Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment; however, travel to remote communities within the NANA Region may be required. Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Travel: Up to 25%. **Competencies** **Financial Management:** Understanding of grant financial processes, budgeting, and financial reporting related to grants. **Grant Administration:** Managing the entire lifecycle of grants, including application, award, monitoring, and closeout. **Federal and Departmental Policies and Procedures Knowledge** : Familiarity with relevant state and federal regulations and organizational policies governing grants. **Initiative-Driven:** An administrator takes initiative and actively contribute ideas, offer specific recommendations, and propose alternative approaches. Being proactive in identifying opportunities and suggesting improvements is crucial. **Data-Driven:** Ability to analyze relevant data is vital. Utilizing trend data to estimate outcomes and needs is important. **Writing Skills:** Exceptional writing and proofreading skills are required. Grant applications often require clear, persuasive language. An administrator must ensure that all grant applications convey all necessary information while maintaining a compelling narrative. **Organizational Skills:** Oversight of multiple grant applications simultaneously demands strong organizational abilities. Keeping track of deadlines, requirements, and progress is essential. Understanding and preparing in advance for application deadlines is imperative. **Research Skills:** Administrators are required to research funding sources, understanding the needs of NANA Shareholders, Tribes, cities, and communities is a must. Utilizing these needs to actively seek opportunities to fulfill those needs is imperative. **Persistence:** Grant administration involves persistence. Rejections are common, but a resilient team studies those rejected proposals, seeking new opportunities, and learning from setbacks. Effective Communication: Clear communication extends beyond writing. Collaborating and maintaining relationships with team members, stakeholders, and funders is crucial.
