Senior Automation Machinery Design Engineer (Aerospace Manufacturing)

Imagine your first 90 days

You arrive on-site in Perry, Florida, step into our downtown Nammo Energetics office, and join a multidisciplinary team building a new solid rocket motor manufacturing capability for the United States. In your first months, you’ll review designs for automated and semi‑automated assembly equipment, visit vendors for runoff, and prep for a short trip to Raufoss, Norway (within your first 12–18 months) to align on global standards. By the end of the quarter, you’ve delivered fixture concepts, optimized a hydraulic circuit for throughput, and drafted detailed scopes for new machinery procurement.

About Nammo Energetics (NEI)

NEI is the Nammo Group division responsible for establishing a solid rocket motor manufacturing facility adjacent to Nammo Perry Inc. We are overseeing the design, construction, qualification, and staffing of the new site, targeting initial production in 2027.

What you will own

• Design and fabricate production equipment (automated and semi‑automated assembly and secondary machines), including material selection, fixtures, and tooling.
• Assess and refine mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to improve yield and throughput.
• Create mechanical/electromechanical fixtures and machines that meet customer and internal requirements.
• Partner with Quality, Process Engineering, and cross‑functional teams to develop detailed equipment specifications and procurement scopes.
• Verify system and product quality through fabrication, assembly, and installation oversight.
• Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repairs, following manufacturer guidance and established procedures, and arranging special services when needed.
• Estimate tooling costs from concept through fabrication.
• Manage vendors through concept, design, fabrication, runoff, and on‑site setup.
• Support maintenance with troubleshooting and repair of production equipment.
• Uphold company policies, safety and environmental standards, and strong housekeeping practices.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
  
  

You bring

• BS in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, or 15 years in an equivalent role.
• Advanced 3D CAD proficiency.
• Hands‑on experience designing and sustaining automated assembly equipment.
• Deep knowledge of hydraulic systems, drawings, and schematics.
• Strong understanding of pneumatic systems, drawings, and schematics.
• Fluency in interpreting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic drawings.
• Ability to shepherd projects from concept to commissioning.
• Comfort reading and understanding basic PLC code.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong organization and computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
• Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
• Self‑starter who works independently to meet deadlines.
  
  

Work location and travel

This role is on‑site in Perry, Florida (downtown office) with some travel, including to Raufoss, Norway within the first 12–18 months.
